Larry Larry...I had one of those. Nice gun, very accurate but jammed regularly...every couple mags full. Also did not care for the grip all that much. Currently looking for a new carry gun so I'll be watching this thread carefully.

I would love nothing more than to carry concealed especially here in Albany. Unless I absolutely must, I do not leave my apartment after dark. People get shot, knifed and hit over the head with bricks ALL the time. However, here in the magnificent state of NY, unless your an ex-cop or a judge who has made a lot of enemies over the years, the chances of you getting a CC permit are less than slim. Therefore law obiding citizens like myself have to deal with getting mugged, shot, stabbed and hit with bricks. I've already asked my local agency what the chances of me getting a CC permit and was told not to even bother trying.

The Kimber's with external extractors had major problems. The internal extractor guns seem fine.

most of the time when I'm out I carry something- sometimes a 3" 629, or a 2"64 38spl or my kimber- I have a ccw, but the key word here is concealed- it's supposed to be- that means nobody knows its there, unless somebody really needs to find out. I have been carrying for 30 years, nobody has had know...my watchwords for a ccw is it's better to have something you don't need than need something you don't have- they do little good home in the safe.

Currently looking for a new carry gun so I'll be watching this thread carefully. Dan mine also had issues when it was new. Mine had a sharp pronounced edge where the feed ramp on the barrel leads into thte chamber. A buddy helped me radius and polish that area. I also replaced the standard factory recoil spring with a heavier variable rate recoil spring. I have over 600 rounds through mine now and it works like a timex now. Mine seems a little fussy about how much I taper crimp my ammo also as it seems to have a really tight chamber. I also replaced the factory sights with XS Sight Systems 24/7 Sights. I really, really like these sights for what this handgun is used for. I also recently finished working up a load using 200gr. Hornady XTP Hollow Points with W-231 Powder. I haven't chronographed it yet but they sure shoot good. Larry

I carry all of the time, 3"S&W 686, Glock 36, Colt Officers 45, Sig 226, Glock 23..........A long list of participants. As for this quote, NY state is easy to get a CC permit. Unless you have a felony or are accused of domestic violence. I live about an hour south of Albany and I carry everytime I go up there. If an Albany County Sherrif told you to not even try he is full of sh!t. However, here in the magnificent state of NY, unless your an ex-cop or a judge who has made a lot of enemies over the years, the chances of you getting a CC permit are less than slim. Sorry guys, I feel that I am not in a place that there is that much crime. I live out in the sticks, surrounded by huge open fields, on the Chesapeake Bay. My life evolves around this enviroment. I guess if I lived in the city life I would carry.

Kimber Compact II Stainless. Even on Sunday morning while behind the pulpit of the little Baptist church where I pastor, it rests under my suit coat. I beleive in the old addage "Trust the Lord, and keep your powder dry". It's not a lack of faith, it's acceptance of the responsibility and ability He has given me to protect those I love should the need arise. Remember the commandment "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God"?
If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

I am armed 24-7 , I believe that if something happens and you are not able to respond to the threat and someone is hurt or killed you will not forgive yourself. I live in a rural area, but home invasion, serial killers, drug users and car jackers and opportunist are everywhere, even if just passing thru. I saved my own butt during a case of road rage in a near by big city (rochester MN) when a guy got out of his old caddy with a tire iron and it seems he had extremely bad intentions when he got out. stepping out from the cab of my pickup with a handgun made him run back to his car and drive thru a red light. an unarmed person may have been injured or worse. I carry several different weapons glock 22, ruger sp 101, kahr k-40 and pw 9, baretta tomcat , wathers PP,an Ar-15 is always in my vehicle, depending on where I am and what I feel comfortable with

I live in a rural area, but home invasion, serial killers, drug users and car jackers and opportunist are everywhere, even if just passing thru. Here, here, exactly correct. I have the same exact belief that if I was somewhere and the SHTF and I was not armed to at least have the opportunity to do something depending on the circumstances I would never forgive myself. I also happen to believe that if every criminal or would be criminal knew for a fact that ALL Law Abiding Citizens the could legally carry a defensive weapon did just that the crime rate would not be what it is today. I also believe that the majority of these thugs that sneak around doing home burglaries etc are cowards, thus the reason they sneak around in the dark. No granted not all fall into this catagory but I bet the majority do. Yes these types of crimes are finding their way to rural america also, albeit not to the extent it happens in the larger communities. Personally here where I live and work we don't have too much of a problem, but in the county seat of Sisseton (about 25 miles away) things are getting serious. I have been called down there to assist a couple times in the last 6 months. Larry PS I don't always have it in my personal vehicle but there is ALWAYS a Bushmaster 16" M4 ORC with a 1.5x4.5x32mm Bushnell Elite 3200 Firefly Rifle Scope loaded with 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips in my work vehicle.

I carry frequently and have done so for 20 plus years. I have tried many different types of weapons and settled on these.
warm weather: Taurus 85 stainless with 125 +p. Can be tucked in pocket of cargo shorts I normally wear in summer with no trace. Low maintience, 100% reliable, cheaper than Smith, Very accurate to 25 yards. I usually will carry 5 extra rounds in a speed loader for total of 10 rounds.
Regular wear: Glock 19 9mm with Tritium night sights. Easy to hide with Inside waste ban holster or small of back with my t-shirt out. (I'm a casual wear sort of guy). 15 shots of 115gr Win. sivertips give a built in reload. Trigger bar changed to 3.5 pound pull. This modification increased my ability to shoot "Minute of Thug" to 50yrs. Night sights are amazing in dim light even for those of us with older eyes. The 3 dot system is easy to line up in total darkness. A real tactical advantage inside your home at night when you know floor plan and they don't.
Truck gun or under a coat: Ruger 97 dc 45acp. I love my 1911's but since I switch back and forth between several different varieties of pistols I want first shot mechanics to be the same. The ruger has no safety. First shot fires double action then subsequent shots are single action. Or you can cock hammer for single action trigger pull on first shot. Since it is stainless and synthetic it is again low maintence and has never malfunctioned in over 800 rounds. Very accurate and was suprizingly inexpensive. I typically carry with 200gr xtps at around 880fps out of the 4" barrel. Capacity is 8 in mag and 1 in chamber for a total of 9 rounds. I carry a spare mag or 2 in car but don't usually take an extra when carrying under coat. I guess my logic is if you need more than 9 45acps then either your not practising enough or you bit off more than you should have.

7STDUBBERU, Not only have I asked an Albany county Chief police officer (who told me everywhere in NY except Schenectady Cty was near impossible to get a cc permit), my Dad and I have asked our local police department (not Albany) and they too said don't bother. My record is as clean as it gets and other than a speeding ticket or two, the same goes for my Dad. Who else could I talk to? You need a residence where you apply.

Go to your sherrif office and get a permit application, fill it 100% perfect make sure you know and trust all of your references. Turn it back in and wait, they have no reason not to give you one. If you are denied and I highly doubt you could be any lawyer would love to take your case. When you go to the range or hunting how is your pistol transported/carried?

liv2hnt460 i second what 7stdubberu just said , my brother is the county sheriff where i live , i asked him what there procedure for a permit applicant was, he said as long as your references come back good ( they are good people no issues ) and your clean to , he passes the info on to the judge for final approval , most people are not even interviewed by him (sheriff) or even the judge (unless there is a problem). they are notified to stop down to the court house and pick up there permit . now this is not to say your area is different but he didn't see why there would be a problem...

Not Judging by any means!!! I have never carried and hope to never have to. My philosiphy is that if I feel the need to carry a weapon to protect my familly or my own life, I'm not going to give a rats ass about anything else. I'm ganna go after whoever or whatever is endangering us and get it before it gets me. I'd rather be the hunter than the hunted !!!!!!!! But I have several freinds that carry, and thats ok by me. To each his own, thats why we live in America.

It depends on the time of the year, if winter with a long jacket either my full sized Kimber Cdp or S&W 4006 in 40sw I know it's on the heavy side but spurless hammer DA first shot. Also carry this when I travel between truck seat. In my work truck my S&W airweight 38spl +p ammo also carry this one in the summer. Also the 4006 is the house gun I keep out of the safe most of the time.

I would like to say this I only carry, mostly when I travel and around this time of the year you never know when somebody will want your Christmas presents more than you do. Also I feel safe leaving a gun out of the safe in the house because I have taken the time to teach my wife and daughter both gun safety and how to shoot. So if I really had to guess I carry a handgun about 25% of the time. I live near Richmond,VA and if I have to go out late at night because of a emergency call I'll grab one.

I carry every time I go out (town or mtns). I usually carry a couple of 45's, one is a full size Springfield GI and the other is a Para LDA (compact)
Do I need to carry..............probably not. But I also wear a seat belt, chances are I probably don't need either.
BE SAFE AND BE PREPARED!

It's better to have and not need, than need and not have!! I am usually never without my Glock 30, 45acp. Here in Ga. it doesn't have to be concealed, we can openly carry. Some resturants have signs posted saying firearms are not allowed, so I just don't eat there. I have also openly carried my Ruger Redhawk 4" 44 mag, and oh the looks I get when I openly carry my SBH 7 1/2" !
It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have!

I carry off and on depending on what I'm doing. There are alot of places you can't carry it even if you have your CCW that are against the law. So I just leave it home. But I always take it if i'm traveling. .38spl 2" 5 shot loaded with +P's

I wish that we could get the ccl passed in WI. I think if it is done right it reduces crime and give the law abidding person not only a means to protect themself but give a potential violator second thoughts. I don't carry but it is rare I don't have a gun in my truck.

"It's better to have and not need, than need and not have!! "almost paraphrases some valuable advice I received as a youngster about women.... seems it was "better to want something you don't have than to have something you don't want"

I definitely carry my glock 23 everywhere I go! It has CT lasergrips on it and resides in a comp-tac MTAC held up by a wilderness 5 stitch belt.

For myself, I have to approach it with the idea, "If I can not pick and choose when the need or emergency might arise, then I can not pick and chose when I will and will not carry". I have to carry all the time, or not at all. But that's just me. I don't have the right or desire to make that approach necessary or proper for anyone else. But it works for me.
If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.
