IMO, it's not the velocity potential that is the limiting factor (a supposed reason for stepping up to a .357 max), it's the small diameter. Absolutely a viable deer cartridge even at .38 special velocities (as long as you have a good bullet nose profile), but even on big hogs I like something bigger than the .429. But that's just me.
