Any info would be fantastic. Ive hunted with revolvers for some time now but would like to try single shots. There just seems to be more options with em. I picked up a sst encore frame so now i need barrels. Looking around there are tons of makers and all of them claim that theirs are superior. Id like to hear about barrels buy the people that shoot them. SSK MGM bullberry mike bellum are there other key players ive missed. Thanks for reading.

I really like MGM. They have great customer service and a great product. You cant go wrong with any of the 3, SSK, MGM, or Bullberry.

#3 for MGM!
If it were me I would go to the classifieds and look for a used custom barrel! Users will often sell the dies and some brass as well!! Also look at the Specialty Pistols web sight classifieds.

so the factory TC stuff isnt bad either? Maybe there isnt much difference. I dont know I have never had a problem with a factory barrel. All of them I have owned have been very accurate. Factory barrels used to be a great buy, but with the recent price increases you can get an MGM barrel for about the same price. I have owned a few SSK barrels and have been impressed with their quality.

Only had 1 bad factory barrel and none from custom makers (yet) But I have seen a few turds from various sides. Personally I'd start off with a factory tube to see if I liked the system than move to the custom stuff.

I have had a few factory barrels. The only complaint I have is there chambers are usally at or around the max dimensions allowed. I prefer a nice tight chamber.

The only custom barrels I have are from On Traget Technologies or OTT. Very accurate. OTT stoped taking orders for custom barrels a while ago, and I'm not sure he is going to start making barrel any time soon.
The two factory barrels I have (223, 243) put thru the paces are accurate. The 223 barrle is a 5 shot sub MOA tube with my handloads. I have other factory tubes and for the most part they shoot well, but I have not had the time to really wring them out.

I've had just about all of them. At this point, I only go custom when I really want a cartridge that is not offered in a factory tube or don't have the patience to wait for a used factory barrel to show up in the classified ads.
There are also several custom tubes in my safe that came up at local shops for a STEAL!!! For instance...a SWEET SSK, SS 14" .22LR w/ TSOB base. I mean...really....that would be a LOT of $$ for a .22LR. But I got the entire gun (SS frame w/ Pach's and barrel) for $275 OTD!!

I own numerous SSK bbls. I recommend them. I have had good luck with J D's products.

I haven't heard anyone mention it yet so i'll throw it in to. I have a 223 rem from coyote guns and it is fantastic, not pretty, but a great shooter. I am not sure if he is still building them but you could probably track him down and ask. I also have other factory barrels and have been pleased with them. As mentioned before, the factory barrels are usually max specs and Bellm has mentioned that the throats are not always aligned perfectly with the bore. On the factory topic I have had a factory Encore barrel that would not shoot so I know TC can get sloppy!

I have a couple of SSK and Van Horn barrels. Both of those brands shoot great. I have shot some Bullberrys and they are really nice also. As far as the other customs go I haven't shot any. I have quiet a few factory 10" and 14" barrels that shoot good, but not as good as the custom barrels.

MGM. Great customer service and fast turn a round, plus they shoot great, too.

I've got a MGM barrel-7x30 Waters. It'll shoot 5/8" groups at 100 yds. if I do my part. Highly recommend them! Ordering a 6.5JDJ or 6.5x225imp from either SSK or Vanhorn this week . Just my 2c. SAS98M

I like the MGM barrels I think they may be the best value for the money. The Steel base they offer is very nice too.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

MGM barrels are a steal!!! Super accurate, excellent workmanship, nice on-line ordering with credit card. The T'SOB six-hole scope base option at $ 40 is a no brainer!!
Of the different factory barrels I have owned, 25% were keepers. Not worth the frustration in my opinion. I only buy MGM or Bullberry now.
I have a 14.5" Bullberry in .30-30 Ackley Improved that I love to take to the range when people are sighting in deer rifles. I have yet to see a deer rifle that could equal it for accuracy. You should see people's mouths hang open when we walk down to the backstop to check targets.
You'll shoot your eye out!
