My choice as a back-up the Bow would be a 45 Colt. Properly loaded the 45 Colt is hogher on the food chain than a 44 Mag IMHO and experience.
If you need the handgun the 45 Colt will pack mor "Wallop" without excessive recoil
JWp475 is absolutely right about the 45 Colt & it too is available on the smaller gripframed Blackhawk.
