I just got a call from Magnaport today, I was expecting to hear "Dan, your 2nd Bisley Predator conversion is finished, come pick it up." Instead I got "Uh, Dan, ... I got your hammer fitted today, but noticed your "Stainless Steel" grip frame is starting to rust!" I bought 2 Bisley grip frames that were both supposed to be s.s. only this one turned out being steel-in-white. I bought it over the internet, its been fitted now, so Im stuck with it! The gun was to be a vapor honed, BIsley Predator in .44 to match my other in .45 colt. Im not a fan of mixing finshes, so I need to blend everything together. Having both guns converted at the same time has really worn out my wallet, so I need to finish this one on the cheap. Anyone use any of the bake-on coatings? Any suggestions???

I have used the a couple of the bake on coatings from Brownells with mixed results. The part definitely needs to be bead blasted and super clean and I cannot over emphasize the clean part. I've used both matte and gloss black and had chipping issues with both. Brownells does offer a clear bake on laquer you could put on to the metal directly or they have a couple variations of stainless finishes. Hope that helps some.

Anyone use any of the bake-on coatings? I tried the "Ceramacote" that Midway peddles and I would NOT recommend that for anything you wish to be proud of. If you are not wary of shipping it, I would highly recommend CCR, they fixed what Midway and me messed up. http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/
Rod, too.

Having the frame hard chromed would achieve a stainless look and be durable. Since you are dealing with Mag-na-port first off I would trust what ever they suggest. There may a slight difference in the look between stainless and chrome but it would be close.

I gave the order to send my gripframe, frame, and loading gate to Birdsong, for their Green-T finish. Everything else will be vapor honed. Hard chrome would look good but I was thinking it would be out of my price range. I looked into cermakote??? but sounds like results may variey. I should have the gun in a month, then I'll post some pics. Maybe of the .45 colt Bisley Predator that DID turnout, if I figure how to post pics. Not really into 'puters much.

Second vote for Metalife. Outstanding work and reasonable for plating.
