Do you wear gloves to protect your hands? If so, what type and brand? Steve

Sometimes, particularly when shooting from the bench. I have an old pair of Allen gloves that are light goatskin leather I believe. Nothing fancy. Have not tried any of the PAST gloves...that are designed for recoil protection... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?pr...tm_campaign=655These may be worth looking into.

I don't have a .500, but I wear shooting gloves when shooting anything. From 22lr-475 linebaugh, revolvers or single shot. It allows me to keep a consistant grip with what ever I shoot and it gives a little protection with heavy recoilers. I use Browning shooting gloves and Uniforce tactical shooting gloves by Franklin. Both are thin, high quality leather that fit skin tight.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I have a set of PAST gloves and they failed in so many ways the first time I tried them with my 475. The palm split on the glove and the half thumb length covering was causing my thumb to rub down the side so bad it split wide open! Took 3 weeks for my thumb to heal right
Truth be known I like a pair of plain old elk hide work gloves better than anything else and when I shoot stiff loads in in my 475 they are pretty necessary for my hands.

I use pro-aim shooting gloves, to me they are the best.

Only when shooting off the bench -- well, and when shooting the .50 AK.

I shoot a lot of full strength .475's and .500's. For many (20+)years I used a Chimere shooting glove, but it finally disintegrated on me, and apparently the company went out of business. I've never been satisfied with any other shooting gloves like Past or Uncle Mike's, because the padding in them increases the trigger reach too much, and I have short fingers. I've experimented with weight lifter's and bicycling gloves, with a homemade "knuckle protector", and with judiciously placed tape, but none of those things have given me complete satisfaction. I get by okay, but I'm not happy without my Chimere.

Are there any manufactured specific to handgun shooting that you would recommend? Steve

I shoot alot of custom Rugers in 454, 475, and 500 Linebaugh. I strictly use the Uncle Mikes products. I use the half finger models most of the time and they work very well for me but I have long fingers so I can't speak to the problems 500we has with them. If the padding creates an issue they also have full fingered ones that are designed for shotgunning but aren't padded but I'll wear them sometimes if it's cold out. The half finger gloves from Uncle Mikes are specifically made for handgunning. Smith and Wesson also sells a shooting glove that is just that a single glove but the padding on it is 3 times as thick as the Uncle Mikes but it has excellent wrist support. hope that helps
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I've been using bicycle riding gloves (had an extra pair) and they have held up to everything I put down range.
