Sure there are bigger calibers out there now, but how big a caliber do you really need?
As long as you can shoot it well, there's no downside to larger calibers, but there is a whole lot to gain with regards to performance on game. The key to this argument is competance with the increase in recoil generated by the bigger calibers. They are difficult to master and require a boat-load of practice.
