Well it finally happened! Opening day I shot a spike buck with my new ruger bisley 44 mag (pictures posted today) I hunted public land in Ohio. Scouted a place last week when bowhunting. I sit at the base of a tree on the ground facing a small opening in the woods. It just looked like a good place. At 8 AM I had 50 turkeys go by.(wow) Then at 8:15 a deer ran 20 yds past me to my left. i thought it was a doe but it turned out to be a spike. Not having a shot to my left, I waited till it got into a small clearing. It stopped at about 30-40 yds in front of me at a 11 oclock, but it was facing away at a slight angle. Believing that it wasnt going to turn broadside, I took the shot (trying to snake it in behind the rib cage) Unfortunatley or fortunatley I shot to the left and hit the rear qtr (almost inline with the anus)
The deer dropped in its tracks. It did get up a dragged itself about ten yds before laying down. Its rear legs were not working (I guess the spine was hit) I had to finish it off as it was still alive when I got to it.
I was using a 7.5 inch blued Bisley 44 Mag. I was using factory winchester 250 grain silvertip hollow points.
The entrance hole was big , no exit.
Anyway it was great. This has been on my bucket list for a while and I thank God for the experience. Cant wait to get another one with the revolver.
I definately need a fiber optic front sight though.
Im thinking of sending it to Magnaport for a 4 port job, and having the front sight milled off and a HiViz Green pinned in. Also looking at the Bowen Rough Country rear (The V one)
Anyway pics are posted on the bragging board. It was a good day. Rained hard all day today so I rested, but in the AM they are forcasting snow so I will be out there!

WTG and Congrats on your first.
I am sure there will be many more now that the first one is behind you. I take it you are using Open Sights. Man I wish I could see open sights and have enough confidence to try to make a shot with open sights.
You done good.

Way to go. I would hold off on the porting tho.
Rod, too.

Good work Festus. Congrats! I'm still looking for my first with the same gun as you.

Congrats! Like others mentioned, hold off on the porting and I would opt for the regular Bowen rear, not the V. I just never really cared for the V personally

Great job and I say forget the porting too, you don't need it. They do nothing but blow out eardrums.
