Took a few things to the range Sunday to check sights, son and grandson along to.Checked WIFES rifle FIRST, its good to go.Got out .35 Rem Contender and asked grandson if he wanted to try it.
I have been gradually stepping him up in caliber,.40 was biggest handgun up to Sunday. Bagged it and let him try trigger first,
then did a couple of him not knowing if it was loaded or not snaps .Target was 2 liter bottle at 340 yds, long range tells quick if they are properly squeezing or not.His next 10 shots went into less than 12 inches, most were under 8 third shot hit the bottle. He listened and did as I instructed,to say I was pleased would be an understatement.First time with a big bore gun and at looong range,You couldn't have wiped the smile off his face with sandpaper. Dang ruined another one! He is 14 and said it was just good coaching, you reccon he is just shining grandpa on?

I know its a long poke with a .35 and I would never suggest shooting at that range at game unless it is already wounded.
The .35 is for me a 150 yd. and under gun. If you have a proven load, long range shows up flaws in your shooting form quick. If I twitch at 50 or 100 it not off much, but do the same thing at 300 and it's a foot off or more. I like to quietly talk to kids during the shot, just basic stuff like sights ,relax, squeeze it seems if they are listning to me they don't let negative
thoughts in . My oldest grandson said during basic training qualification he heard my voice instead of the drill instructors, and it calmed his nerves .SChunter if you want another strange voice in your head come on up. That smile of my grandson was worth a thousand times what those 10 rounds cost.
