scope info

I am looking for a good long range handgun scope. I have tried rifle scope on a TC, I don't like it. I think the highest power is Burris 3x12. I would like target knobs. Has anyone tried the Konus 2x8? Does the Weaver 2.5x8 have some type of target knob? What is the best?

Without more information on what long range means to you. I would have to say that the higher power of the burris makes a big difference even though it's hard to use at the highest powers. They used to offer the 3x12 with target knobs but it looks like that option is no more. If you think 8x would work for you The Leupold 2.5x8 can be sent back and they will install target knobs for a very reasonable price.

You can also get add on target turrets for the Leupold from Stoney Point.

You can get a Burris 3-12 with a BP reticle. I never liked the Burris 3-12 due to the tricky eye relief on the upper end.

I have over a dozen 3-12 Burris Handgun scopes, most with BPlex reticle. I use several of these to take game out to 500 yards in real and varied hunting conditions. I have no trouble using them in field conditions. They're the best long range handgun scope available now.

As far as I can find, no one makes a Target knob scope now. Is the eye relief on the 3 x 12, like the 7X and 10X Burris. They were a pain for field use. Nikon makes a BDC reticle also, that may be the way to go. Long range for this 223 barrel, I would say 500 yds. for clays and steel plates, 400yds for varmint

You can buy target turrets for teh Leupold, and they used to make for the Burris. I used to have a 3-12 with one from Stoney Point, but I didn't like the scope. A ranging reticle like a mil-dot of ballistic plex is easier to keep track of IMO.

Leuopold will build you just about anything you want within reason. I would check with them!

Been awhile since i've been here. Good to be back. I can't believe Burris eliminated the TT option. That's a mistake, IMO with 12x.

U could probably find one used somewhere though.

The eye relief is looong on the 3-12x at 12x. It's OK with a rear grip style (probably fine with TC's), but a center grip shot prone with a bipod will require some stretching to get a full FOV.
