A Lot of Bull...

A Lot of Bull... - 11/15/2012 7:19 AM

...with a "Little Gun..."

"Little" in outside dimensions but big in Bore and Power.

Don't let the photo give you a misconception; he just happened to die in a small grassy opening amongst the heavily-treed forest. After a stalk that took at least an eternity, I sat and waited on him at full cock, (then I even ever so carefully let the hammer down to rest with my thumb controlling it and waited some more, mainly to help control my breathing...read excitement!) a full 4 to 5 minutes before he took one more step forward and gave me that little open window I wanted and needed through the trees and heavy branches so I could place that 400 grain XTP through his shoulders. And in the process it smashed his heart and shredded both lungs and exited into the hillside behind him.

.475 Linebaugh, one shot, put 400 grain XTP through heart and both lungs and broke the off shoulder; he limped about 30 yards and went down for good. No finisher needed.

My son Joe, although not able to be up close with me when I did the stalk due to many details, got pretty good video on it all.

Thanks Craig; I am pretty sure the answer is YES; it was one of the herds I was unable to get any video footage of. I never got close enough for a good look because they were moving along at a quick walk through some timber.

Great Job!

Looks like you healed up OK from last year. Seems like it takes a little longer when you get a little Experiance on you.

Have a Great Hunting Season.

Thank you.

I shoot a 400 gr. Hornady XTP with 25.5 gr. of H-110; never crono'ed it. I would guesstimate 11-1200 FPS?

I will be writing a story and will save the other details for that.

Re: A Lot of Bull... - 11/19/2012 3:11 AM

how many critters is that with the 475 now? I remember a prairie dog, and last year a small mulie and a bull.
Posted By: Gregg Richter

Re: A Lot of Bull... - 11/19/2012 4:03 AM

Hey Rod! You have a good memory!

For this year you can add two mule deer bucks and a bull elk.

More stories to follow.

I really enjoy and have a lot of confidence in the custom .475 you built for me and it is now my favorite big game handgun. I expect that will not change for quite some time.

As you stated that you will likely be starting up your business again some time in the near future, I will be sending you pics as requested for your "Trophy Room."

Here's to you starting up again:

Best Of Luck, My Friend.

Not sure what you mean. Read the story and it will probably answer your questions. Also look in the archives for my scouting video if you are actually interested in the real behind the scenes stuff.

Gregg, Forgive my late reply in saying you took a beautiful bull elk with a traditional handgun the way B&C like it. My sincere congratulations......
