Leupold vs Red Dot in low light

I have a UltraDot on my 460 at this time but have been thinking of buying a VX-3 2x8 for it. My concern is where I do a lot of my hunting at this time is Deer/Hog combo hunts. I am concerned that low light situations at dusk & dawn when the hogs move might be too dark for the scope. I would like to hear from those that have used both in similar situations and which way works best.

As you should be. I find a red dot to be better in low light. On most you can turn the intensity down to the point where you can see to shoot in complete darkness, even though you may not be able to see your target.

I have decided that a red dot is far superior for low light situations. I loose my scope crosshairs long before I consider it past shooting light. The red dot allows me to take the shot right up to the point that I can no longer see the target.

One other thought. After giving a Leupold Deltapoint a try I am now of the mindset that unless a dot sight has a manual intensity adjust it will not be on my hunting gun. Too many situations crop up where the light around me is not the same as the light I am shooting into, resulting in a dot that is too bright or too dim, too often.

This is precisely why I changed from an Optima 2000 to an UltraDot, on my Bisley 45.

Should also add that not all red dots are the same. I had a Millet that was tinted and you couldn't see squat in low light. Have seen some cheaper generic ones with a similar characteristic.

I just installed an Ultradot 30 on my 480 Ruger Super Redhawk. I was delighted with dusk performance and accuracy under 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards.
