Minus 9 plus 500... - 01/31/2014 7:23 PM
Walked out the door to minus 9 degrees. Cold..real cold... Long story short, my guide was able to push a sounder to me while I staked out a small hilltop and from a sitting position with sandbag on my knees I made a 90 yard or so shot on the bigger boar using my Freedom Arms Stalker with Hornady factory 475 Linebaugh XTP ammo. Blew through the boar who took off but the cold temps turned the blood trail to a fine mist as it froze very fast. He traveled about 75 yards and as I made my way to him I spot a smaller boar nearby, and since I wanted to test a Swift .50 caliber A-frame, I pulled out my iron sight Freedom Arms 500WE with a 6" barrel that carried my A-frame handload.
Had to lay down in the snow, in a kind of Creedmoor position, because the boar was behind quite a few blowdowns. Got the sandbag on my knee and was able to make a 30 or so yard shot that flipped the boar on his back. Recovered the 50 cal A-frame that weighed an even 30 grains and opened up to 0.802"......
