What range do you set your sights to?

Just wondering what range y'all set the sights on your iron sighted revolvers to.

I normally set mine to 25yds as my ability and the places that I typically hunt limit my shots to 75yds, with most being inside of 50.

With wheelguns I usually sight 1"-2" high @ 50 yards. If irons that puts me -0- @ around 75 yards, and with a red dot or scope -0- @ 100.

I like to sight mine in dead on at 100 yards. Seems like the bulk of my shots are at (give or take) that distance

Like a number of others here, I'm sighted dead-on at 75 yards. Seems to hit pretty close to POA at 25, a bit high at 50, and a bit low at 100. I prefer to hunt the edges and keep it in close if I can, so this setup seems to work well for me.

If I know approximately what distance I'll be shooting at - I'll sight dead-on at that yardage and fire a couple for effect at closer & further targets just to get an idea of kentucky windage if necessary.

Otherwise I use a 3" target at 25 yards and using a 6 O'clock sight picture, puts me high about 1.5" from POA.

I find the same thing as racksmasher1 above and I think that applies to most all "magnum" hunting calibers. My .44 mag. shooting 265 gr bullets at about 1375 FPS if I zero about one inch high at 50 I am spot on at 100 yards. That gives me a point balnk range out to 100 yards which for me is as far as I would use my .44 mag. revolver. I think the key here is the velocity and any typical handgun bullet that falls in this category will pretty much match this performance.

I have all of my hunting guns sighted in 1" to 2" high at 50 yards. Magnum Revolvers are good to 100 yds. Contenders to 150 or 200 ish depending on caliber. Keep it simple as your training & experience (practice) will drive you at the critical moment. This method has served me well for 35 years.

I have Contenders, XP100's and a Savage Striker that are all sighted in at longer ranges. My max range that I will shoot a deer with these iron sighted, 4 5/8 barrel revolvers is really 50yds. I would be tempted at 75, but probably would not do it as my 54yr old eyes just don't see those sights and a brown target that well.

Now. with the single shots and optics...different story. Although, I don't hunt anywhere that will offer me over a 125yd shot...as I hunt woodlots that are pretty close range affairs.
