Ruger's Toklat and Super Blackhawk. - 08/11/2014 6:14 PM
I have a Super Blackhawk with the 4 5/8" barrel, a nice short easy to carry and shoot hunting revolver. I recently purchased the Super Redhawk Toklat with 5" barrel. After handling both guns extensively over the weekend I think I prefer the feel and handling of the SBH way better than the Tolkat. The grip is a more natural feel to me. The Toklat grip just seems big and unnatural in my hand. I know the Toklat is more powerful being how it is .454 Casull vs. the .44 Magnum SBH. The .44 magnum should cover most all of my hunting needs, even bear, if it ever happens. I originally bought the Toklat with the intention of not firing it (still haven't) and selling it, but am considering keeping it and putting a 2X handgun scope on it but am afraid it just wouldn't get much, if any use. I carry the SBH in a Simply Rugged holster with the chest harness, makes for a great carry gun, compact and powerful enough for any application. I figure the Toklat will find much more use in Alaska than here in the lower 48. I would not be afraid the use the SBH, properly loaded on a small grizzly if ever presented with the opportunity.
