I like them both but prefer the SBH. The Redhawk/SRH can use a longer bullet if you just feel you need it.

In the Blackhawk, I prefer the Bisley Flavor. The Redhawk a very close second. The Super Redhawk a distant third.

Not a bad choice in the bunch.

For a hunting gun, the blackhawk, bisley hunter variety would be my first choice.

In the DA flavor, the Redhawk is more visually appealing to me, however the trigger mechanism in the Super Redhawk is superior to the one in the RH, thus gets my vote. Form follows function.

Also the SRH handle with the Hogue Tamer grip is more comfortable to shoot with heavy loads, IMO

Why a distant 3rd?, I'm VERY new to handgun hunting, used a GP100 last year on deer, but recently got a SRH, like new and plan on using it this year. I'm always looking for some info.
Thanks

Some just don't like the way she looks. You know, form over function folks. The SRH has the best SA trigger of the trio and is also easier shooting with heavy loads. I wouldn't mind if Ruger chopped the barrel extension off and threaded on a full lug like the GeeP, but they all look the same from behind the sight(s)

I'm going with that's a sign of age......If I aint there, i'm close.
If I decide to stop at 44, i will own a Blackhawk of sorts.....a little more warmth and classic look.

The Super is a great gun. The reason it looks like it does is by accident, a slight misdiagnosis of a situation by Ruger. They made the best of it by adding the scope mount system and let it ride. It is a great platform, albeit not the sleekest.

s4s4u would be wrong in my case.

The grip on the SRH is the largest and most uncomfortable for me of the 3 choices mentioned. I can make it work, but it is not my preferred grip size or shape. I don't mind the way the SRH looks at all. It's just a big gun for my Carney hands. So, it would be my personal 3rd choice.

I recommend you hold all three options and see which fits you best and feels most comfortable.

Keep in mind, I say that the SRH would be my 3rd choice...........but yet.........I have two of them. So, I obviously don't dislike them.

the grip on the SRH is what does it for me, I love 'em. As for the looks, I never liked it until I saw one in person, now I have two. To each his own....

Re: Redhawk or Blackawk - 09/02/2015 12:21 PM

The SBH for me...The real SBH with the squared trigger guard. Ruger seems to be calling every 44mag a SBH these days even if they have the little BH grip frame....but that is not a SBH.

In all seriousness, though, I'd probably choose the Redhawk.

Or, if I could afford it, both.

Redhawk......I find the grip, as it comes from the factory, is perfect for my hands. I could go on about all the good points of the Redhawk but its your choice.... Apples and oranges are both fruit. Its a matter of your taste...

My very first pistol was a single action Ruger but, I've since found the double actions fit me better. I find them more comfortable to shoot in larger calibers. I own several single actions but, for BIG BOYZ I'll go with a double action, every time.

Never been a fan of the Super Redhawk. I find the Redhawk and Super Blackhawk enjoyable to shoot and handle. IF I had to choose between the two I would go with the Redhawk. The Super Redhawk has never been on my wish list. Go with the one that calls you!

I've had both BH's and SRH's and both are fine weapons. I always end up going back to the BH, but that's just because its what fits me and works better for me. Its a personal choice.

Re: Redhawk or Blackawk - 09/06/2015 2:54 PM

I love to hunt with single actions but put self-defense as a first priority. I carry a Glock G20SF 10mm auto if I'm carrying only a single action, much the same with a bow and handgun combination. The lesser issue of quickly examining the remaining loads in the cylinder and replacing spent cartridges falls to a reversible pawl in my NM Blackhawk customized guns. I too wish the scalloped top strap was standard on the Redhawk and the hump on the Super Redhawk was gone.

Super Redhawk for me. The grip allows me to shoot any round I want all day. It is really comfortable to shoot. I had a Bisley Super Blackhawk Hunter but it hurt my finger every time I shot it. I tried to grip it different etc but when I found a spot it didn't hit my finger it wasn't comfortable to shoot, just me I guess. But, the SRH found a sweet spot for me.

I have a 9.5 Inch Super RedHawk in 480 Ruger, with a 30mm UltraDot mounted on a Weigand Base. It has Hogue "TAMER" Grips. I can shoot it as long as I want to with 370's running 1200 fps. It handles recoil very well. It is also a breeze to tune up the trigger pull on if you want it lighter.

I also have a Stainless Steel 5.5 Inch New Model BlackHawk Bisley in 45 Colt. One of the 250. I do not see it replacing my 480 Ruger SRH any time soon as my primary Deer Hunting handgun, but I will probably use it some for deer with open sights.

I have never owned a RedHawk. They do look better than a SRH, but the SRH Tamer grips are hard to improve on for heavy recoil.

No wrong answer between the three.

I would not rule out the 45 Colt, 454, or 480 Ruger if you reload.
