TRUGLO red dot failure

TRUGLO red dot failure - 09/20/2015 11:03 PM

I just put one of their basic models on my Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt, loaded with a 280 grain RCBS 45-270-SAA. I used 10 grains of Unique for about 950-1050 fps. Not real high in the recoil department. I fired two shots to sight it in. First shot was high left on an 8.5x11" typing paper target. I adjusted the elevation down and fired a second shot. Point of impact moved nicely down. I then adjusted for center and prepared for a third shot. I looked through the sight and discovered the front lense was shattered. I will not be buying the cheapest red dot in the future. My UltraDot 30mm has stood up to my 480 Ruger Super Redhawk without problems. Five times the cost, no telling how much better performance. The TruGlo was advertised as a shotgun ready sight, so a big bore handgun may have been way too much recoil for it.

I had a red/green dot Truglo on a Desert Eagle .44 magnum. The front lens shattered. It's replacement did the same. I emailed Truglo and discovered that it was not recommended for magnum handguns.

Ultradot all the way, worth every penny.
