Federal 240 gr jhp factory load - 04/05/2016 10:27 PM

Does anyone have any experience using the Federal 240 grain jhp factory load in a 44 mag revolver.

I have been hunting with Winchester 240 sp white box in my Redhawk 5.5 inch barrel for several years but am thinking about trying this load for deer out to 100 yards next season.

What do you think?

The load I use is a 240 JHP and works just fine. I would have full confidence in the factory load as long as you put the bullet where it needs to be which is heart and lungs. I load my own but the same requirement on bullet placement applies.

Good Hunting!!

Most of the factory 240 gr. JHP loads are excellent deer loads My preference is the Remington, but its performance is almost identical to the WW 240 gr JHP, Norma, Federal, etc.. I have not personally tried the Hornady 240 gr JHP on game, but it is a good shooter.

Federal 44 Magnum 240 gr JHP ammo is used by Smith & Wesson to test their 44 Magnum revolvers

It'll work if it's put where it needs to be. Seems if I remember right it was a little better than the white box but I weren't impressed with the federal hydra shok stuff.

I load hornady 240 xtp-hp with 19 grains of win 296. I have take a lot of deer with that load. I only use 300 jsp from Sierra over 21 grains of win 296 for black bear and hogs.

I do not know how many I speak for, but as as a 50+ man, told the .44 was = to the 30-30 Winchester at close range. Test 150/170 30-30 VS. that .44 Rem Mag and the .35 Remington. That would be Meat and Potatoes for many hunters trying to decide. Not merely on the Rifle calibers, but to the veracity of having a Handgun/ Rifle round. For many the comfort of having both in 2 platforms is ok, I like the mix.
