Let me share last Saturday with you. - 11/08/2016 7:07 PM
Tiny bit of background story: My son in law's serious hunting career spans about the past 2 seasons. Mac really took to hunting, and has made quite a bit of progress in short time. He took a doe last year with his Ruger Scout rifle, and I was proud for him then. Over the past year he showed great interest and effort in getting it done with the short gun. Mac was already an accomplished shooter, and had an early blued S&W 41mag that he got from his dad. He was familiar with that platform, and when we found a newer 657 stainless that was already d&t'd, it was game on. He practiced sufficiently, and dialed in his own handloads using 210gr xtp's. The 657 is topped with a Leupold 2x scope.
Well, enough of the background. Last Saturday morning, we were at our deer hunting lease, and about 10:20 am I heard him shoot. I was on pins and needles hoping everything had gone well. 2 minutes later he shot again. 2 shots, 2 deer down. Distance was about 20 yds or so. Placement was perfect high shoulder on both deer. We have meat for the freezer, backstraps for the grill, and I believe we have a newly addicted handgun hunter that will be using that 41mag for some time to come.
A couple of things Mac said after it was all over:
"I cant believe how much the crosshairs shake on a deer instead of a target!" and "Holy smoke, I just did that with a HANDgun!"
I am quite proud for him, and of him. The pic is up on my bragging board, but I still cant figure out how to get it on the post right. Thanks for looking! The only complaint I have now is getting ribbed from my buddies about "the young'ns showing me up".
