A milestone

A milestone - 05/11/2017 6:31 PM

Live long enough, shoot enough, shoot straight and some lofty achievements can be obtained.
I took this groundhog two days ago with my FA .475 Linebaugh with an UltraDot and a 325 gr. Horn. XTP. I love taking 'hogs with my big guns. Makes you a better shot and helps relive the memories ( my last lion and rhino were done with this gun).
I started keeping yearly records in 1975 with the guns and the ranges taken. #1 single shot- .22-250 XP; #1 revolver -.44 Mag.

One of the toughest shots of my life was when I had a blackbuck in my sights at a ranch in Missouri... It was not that it was a 70 yard shot... but that you were watching....One of the true handgun hunters of my time whose list of trophies include Africa`s "Big Five" beside the thousands of deer and groundhogs that have fallen to your handguns and there`s no end in sight...Here`s to you Doc Roger`s....and the many more live targets to see through your sights...Sincerely, JFS

"Milestone"???

That's a freakin lifetime achievement award right there!! That's the equivalent of "New York City to Los Angeles" worth of milestones.

Well done!!!

Congrats Doc - I dare say that is an achievement that will likely never be topped, except by you. Most folks are dedicated enough to shoot that many pigs. Now figure out how much spent in ammo. That would be a staggering number too.

Congratulations Doc. You are a truly amazing handgunner. Such a major milestone. A true living legend. I say there is no one that has come close to bagging the number of game animals that you have. Keep it rolling.

Redhawk, my deer numbers are less since I do autopsies on each one and make detailed notes on what handgun do to deer. That number would be 2346.
I give the meat to older or disabled people who can't do the work. My donated meat total is right at 106,000 #.

Re: A milestone - 05/17/2017 11:13 AM

Congratulations on such success.. Looks like that 325 XTP opened it up a bit

By the numbers -> 1975 to 2017 = 42 years @ 13k hogs
A yearly average of 309.5 WOW!
The .5 was probably the 416 Taylor..

Re: A milestone - 05/17/2017 9:43 PM

Thanks, Buck for the math. Those numbers were beyond me. I did remember that in the '80s I took over 500 in 7 of 8 years with 636 being my best year.
You mentioned my .416 Taylor. I did shoot one half in two with it. The front half actually crawled a foot or so until he realized he was dead. I did count him as a full kill!
