Blackbuck

Blackbuck - 10/09/2017 1:09 AM

We went pig hunting this weekend but acorns started dropping and between that and the full moon we didn't even see a pig but I got this blackbuck with my 475 @ 120 yards. I've been after this guy for a couple years and he finally got a little too close. He liked to hangout in a huge field that was impossible to stalk because it was wide open just knee high grass.

That tree was over 400 yards out and it's about another 500 to the back tree line.

That seems a young one as he is not black.....but his horns are quite spectacular!

No he wasn't young - occasionally they don't turn. I've seen two like that on two different ranches. His nads were about half the size they should have been...

That's a big blackbuck! Must be well over 20 inches. Congrats!

Gary, you are exactly right! Sometimes they stay that light tan color. Blackbucks are very skittish, and they makes taking an excellent one like this one that much cooler. His horns are definitely in the Gold Medal Class

As you very well know, THAT is one heck of a blackbuck! The fact that he retains the golden tan color makes it that much more special. Wonderful!

Gary, that's the finest blackbuck I've seen! Congrats! It's a shame he didn't have the trademark coloration.

I actually like the coloration because it's different.

Great trophy Gary! I haven't seen a lot of them, perhaps 100, but that's the best one I've seen for sure. I've got to do a Blackbuck hunt some day.

Gary, if your trophy is 20" high, that would put it four inches above mine... If you get a measure, let me know... Sure is a fine blackbuck....

Re: Blackbuck - 10/10/2017 9:23 PM

SEVEN inches taller then my blackbuck.....Boy, do they grow `em big in Texas.....Again, congratulations on the blackbuck and some excellent shootin.....
PS- I see you use 325gr Speer in your 475L.B.... I`am sure it shoots much flatter then their 400gr bullet.... What are your thoughts on this bullet???

Re: Blackbuck - 10/10/2017 9:37 PM

Thanks James, I like it for anything up to the size of elk. I've killed black bear, elk, deer, hogs, blackbuck and scimitar oryx with it... I'd use the 400's on moose but I would not use either on water or cape buffalo without some more testing on big stuff. It's bonded so it's not going to come apart but they may be a little soft for really big stuff.

Re: Blackbuck - 10/12/2017 12:13 AM

I think that is the longest Blackbuck I have ever seen. And a 120 yard revolver kill is another thing to be proud of!

Its kinda funny Gary `cause you almost sound like Ross Seyfred talking about the Speer JFP when he did a write up many years ago on jacketed bullets....
