Gray fox with the Single Six from several years back.

I've killed a double truckload of possums, skunks, coons and armadillos with this thing over the last two years but alas, no pics.

Don't have many varmints around here, unless you count squirrels.

I have shot several coyotes with my handguns but here are my favorites-

I shot these two on the run within seconds of each other with my Contender 35 Rem.

How about this for unique; a black coyote with my SBH .44.

I have shot one bobcat. I shot it while deer hunting with my MOA in .250 Savage.

It has a special place in my loft .

Franchise, with all those foxes; are you hunting near a hen house? Seriously though, there are more foxes in this thread than I would have thought.
When you say varmints, I think of groundhogs or prairie dogs. I have shot my share and very much enjoy it. I have several pics on the Bragging Board with a variety of guns and calibers.

Longhunter, those are some good looking squirrel getters.

Racksmasher, that is an eye catching coyote mount.

cmnash, you my friend, are one sharp shootin' song of a gun! The foxes always come in to eat the silage that falls out of the feed troughs..I see a lot less red foxes since the coyotes have moved in..the greys can get away, the reds aren't as lucky.

Re: Varmints With Handguns - 04/03/2018 6:02 AM

Most of mine are locked up in Photobucket but I do have a few I can show. I've easily taken over 100 badgers with different six guns & gave away many of them to forum members over the years.
The Red Fox I'm holding I actually shot at our shooting range. Me & another guy were practicing for a USPSA match in Jackson Hole & this Fox came trotting behind us like he owned the place. My S&W 610 was unloaded & on the table a few feet away, I ran & grabbed it as he disappeared into the next shooting bay.
I dropped in a moon clip full of 205 gr cast loads & walked around the berm just as he was climbing out the top. I hit him through both front shoulders double action & he took 2 steps & was gone over the top.
No one was around & we had to drive around into the Silhouette range & there he was, dead as a rock.
The Badger & Porcupine were taken in December, latest I ever killed a Badger. Shot them about 2 hours apart with my Browning Hi_Power. The Badger saw me stop & went down his hole. I jumped out of the truck & ran through the snow & circled his hole & sit down. When he came up to look at my truck I whacked him.

This is why I bought a 32 mag....When I ran out of two pocket`s full of 45 Colt handloads shooting dozens of these little critters
my knowledgeable friends from Idaho still had plenty of .32 ammo..

Some will disagree, but where I come from, these are varmints -- tasty ones albeit, but varmints nonetheless.....

I know in Texas they are considered varmints. The last 2 shown here I took with a knife. They can really squeal when you stick them.

Re: Varmints With Handguns - 04/04/2018 10:47 PM

Living where I am in NJ we have not experienced the amount of pigs that changes them from hogs to varmints.... Once, in a Texas deer blind, I watched what looked like a black freight train pile through a hole in the fence and make its way to some deer feed and spooking the six or seven eating whitetails... With that in mind I`ll leave the floor (and pics) to the boys that truly have a varmint problem....
PS- Photo shows the "caboose" from the freight train I mentioned above...

While speaking of varmint hogs............ what I`ve seen when encountering a large group is that size varies considerably with many on the small size and that a well placed 40gr 22 mag will work if not making things real exciting...

It didn't take much encouragement for that to happen!

Hasn't been that many years ago that Cougars weren't considered a game animal here in Idaho either. Utah fishermen are still considered varmints! And a lot of them are my relatives!

THE GUY FROM ARKANSAS HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE CONCEPT OF CATCH AND RELEASE AND SAID HE WAS NOT SURE THAT WAS LEGAL IN ARKANSAS, IT WAS ALL I COULD TO KEEP FROM LOL.

They stock trout in local lakes here. They are not native. If you catch one.....it stands very little chance of survival upon release. He may have had regulations where he lived addressing such matters.
You cant relate what you ?know? to every part of the country, in every circumstance. A lot of the same applies to hunting. People, areas, and circumstances differ.
