I use 3 on heavy recoiling guns. Some guys use 4. 50% more support and grip friction around the tube. I have seen scopes flex or slip with 2 rings. I like 2 in the front as the moment arm produced by recoil is greater away from the fulcrum of the grip. I also mount scopes with the scope turret front pushed tight against the mid ring to prevent the scope from creeping forward under recoil.

HOW MANY RINGS? AS MANY AS YOU CAN GET ON THERE! WITH THE WARNE MAXIMA RINGS ITS 3, WITH THE SSK RINGS ITS 4. YOU CAN CARRY "SPARE" RINGS IN YOUR POCKET OR ON YOUR SCOPE, ME I LOAD UP THE SCOPE.

Yup, on the heavy kickers more is better.

I used to put 3 rings on all of my heavy kickers, until I discovered Tactical scope rings...I've had great success with 2 tactical scope rings

3 should be fine on the 4x because it's light enough that it doesn't get the same forces on it as a heavier scope like the 2.5x8. BTW you can mount 4 rings with the 2.5x8 but you have to take a dremmel tool and mill a dish in the front of the TSOB base to allow the bell to clear the base.

No arguments from me. Use as many as you can. Just make sure they are identical rings of the exact size and I.D.

Not on a pistol, but my dad bought an Encore rifle in 500 S&W with an 18" barrel and it recoils enough even as a rifle that it has tried to rip the scope rings out of the mount on two different mounts. Chewed up the cross slots in the mount after a handful of shots. He finally sent it to in to get the TSOB mount and 3 rings. So far it's holding up well, I can only imagine the added stress the mounts see on a hard recoiling scoped handgun.

After I destroyed a Baush Lomb Elite scope on my FA`s 454 shooting 360gr Corbon ammo I added a fourth ring because of the power involved... Only have two rings on my 41....the more power...the more rings...

Thanks guys. The only other gun I've had a scope on is my 45 Colt Bisley Hunter. 355gr at 1200. With a couple thousand of that round, never an issue with 2X weaver and 4X leupold with the Ruger ring setup.

James, squeeze the trigger easier & you'll get less recoil, really!!!

I have always used 4 on my .454,.475L and .500 WE revolvers and on some bottlenecks in Contenders. I've never had a scope break, slide or rotate using this formula,so that's good enough for me.
