Loaded Ammo Costs

Loaded Ammo Costs - 11/22/2018 3:56 AM

Today I was in Sportsman's Warehouse with one of my son's & I was looking at the cost of some factory ammo & was kind of shocked since I never buy any factory ammo.
You guys that are in the know can probably tell me what the difference is in performance between Grizzly 335 gr +P cast 45 ammo & Cast Performance 325 gr +P cast 45 ammo. The difference in price was HUGE! The Grizzly was $19.99 for 20 rounds & the Cast Performance was $35.99 for 20 rounds! Is there that much difference in performance? Neither box said gas checked.

I hardly ever buy loaded ammo. But one thing I have noticed is that most, of the so called "Premium Ammo" for Hunting, especially, is on the average $2.00 round.

Where I first noticed a Price jump is when the manufacturers started this so called "Defense" ammo.
Next, it was the +P stuff....

premium handgun ammo prices are pretty steep.... If you shoot a lot of ammo and don`t handload you better have deep pockets...I remember buying a box of fifty 260gr JFP rounds from Freedom Arms and the price was $50.60. That was a jaw dropper... I don`t know how many hundreds of brass and bullets I have for the 454 along with all the other centerfire calibers I own... Reloading is the way to go today....

Its expensive but the bullets and the brass as components arent exactly cheap on their own. I do reload but my time is at a premium so i do buy lots of factory rounds.

Well I figured this had to be gas checked but neither brand was labeled gas checked. The big price difference was why I was asking you guys that test it. Thanks.
I took 5, 50 round boxes of factory FA 454 to New Mexico with me & sold it for $40 a box to a well known handgunner, he was very happy to get it. Wasn't mine, I sold it for a friend.

I have not bought loaded ammo, other than a half case of Ranger T 45 acp ammo for cc, in over 30 years, knowing that it will be another 30. I just wish I knew if it was as good as I am loading, I kinda doubt it.

I have had a couple people ask me to sell em some of my cast bullets, they just aint willing to pay what I would have to have. The one guy told me he could buy jacketed for that price, I let him know that's what I would do if I wanted jacketed revolver bullets, they think the reason we shoot em is because they are cheaper. But all they use theirs for is killing paper and bottles.

As handgunners we have to shoot a lot, shooting factory ammo is out of the Question, as James said you better have deep pockets.

I started
Reloading because of my 44 started casting because of my 9mm and Shooting idpa matches.
Now I cast and load all my strait walled and some of my bottle neck also.
