Most unique handgun you have....

I have/had my fair share of revolvers, TCs, and bolt guns, but this is one of my favorites still:




I bought this "Competitor Pistol" years ago. I think that they have long been out of production, but it is still one that I grab to hunt deer on many occasions. I have several barrels for it, but this one, a 257 Roberts AI, is the one that is on it most of the time. A rather unique handgun, and very accurate!

Your picture isn't loading for me but another frequent flyer on here loves his competitors too. Franchise. I'm sure he'll see this and comment.

I tried hosting the picture on another site. Is it visible to you now? Not that its critical, but pic hosting can be a pain when you want to use them on forums.

I definitely love my Competitors...I hate that I haven't owned more...I've had or have a 30/221, 376 Steyr, 411/338, 416 Barnes, 475/350, and a 50 AE Competitor

Sadly, what we have now, or can find used are all there will be. I wish that I had grabbed up some extra parts before they closed their doors.

These pistols were a prime example of ?form follows function.? There are better looking guns out there but the competitor just works. I love the way that they balance, handle recoil, etc.

Or an E.A. Brown BF falling block in 22LR?

I have one in 6.5 Rem. Mag as well as a 243 barrel with a synthetic stock.Very accurate fun to shoot pistol. Maybe one day I will try the 243 barrel,but for now it stays 6.5.

I have a 221 Fireball barrel that came with mine. I don?t think that I?ve ever fired it. Maybe someday if the mood strikes.

I've shot cmnash's Sterling.....only 1 that I've ever seen in real life

Mine would have to be my 15 inch 209x50 TC Encore. I took a buck with it this year.

For Franchise and Stush, any thoughts on how well the Magnum Research Lone Eagle compares to the Competitor? I can find a Lone Eagle, but no luck finding a Competitor.

The Lone Eagle and the Competitor are similar in appearance, but I think that the Competitor is the more refined of the two. Advantages over the Lone Eagle include:

1) No cocking lever on the Competitor. It cocks when you open the breech.

2) The Competitor, at least the later production model that I have, has a much better trigger than the Lone Eagles that I have seen/handled.

3) This is fairly subjective, and varies depending upon the barrel, but the Competitor always seemed like it balanced better than the Lone Eagle.

I don't believe that there are any common parts between the two. They are completely different designs.

I have my grandfathers .45 1911 that he carried and used in the Korean war. I still shoot it from time to time too.

My most unique handgun would have to be my RPM Merrill Pistol wide frame in 45/70 Govt. This gun is one of six prototype pistols made with a stainless steel frame. All of the other RPM frames were plated in hard chrome. More pictures and info. are in my article on RPM pistols.

This 38 S&W #2 was taken out of a wall that was built around it. The house was over 100 years old and the pistol was discovered during the remodel. It was intentionally placed on a weather brace and the wall was sealed from above. Maybe a murder weapon? We will never know.

I have three that are near and dear to my heart. The first is an old Sears and Roebuck bolt action 20 gauge. The second is my dads WW2/Korea carry Remington Rand 1911 and finally my dad built my mom a 30-06 deer rifle using a war surplus Smith Corona action, Monkeypod wood stock and a gold trigger. Still shoot the 1911 and the 30-06 from time to time. None of them would grab top dollar or anything like that just a lot of great memories as family keep sakes that can still function.

Not a hunting pistol but I've got my grandfather's old Webley .38S&W revolver. Complete with a roughly milled 2" barrel holster.

I actually kept it as a truck gun back in college, prior to buying modern action big boy calibers.

if your familiar with S&W J-frame 22`s you will know they came in 2"- 3 1/2"- 4" and a short run of 5" m-63`s. However, their model 35 has a true 6" barrel making it unique among 22 revolver`s. A lightweight field gun that writer Russell Annabelle used to take out some bad wolves in Alaska...

1915 Colt New Service with British proofs. I'd love to think it saw the trenches.

Custom Encore shoots 356 or 358 Win, by changing the extractor, I bought both, and have a threaded dummy to have a choice of muzzle brake or no muzzle brake, I prefer the 356 version.

the most unique handguns I've had are two i built. One was a snubnose Blackhawk 500 Linebaugh and the other was my personal 458 Lott Encore. I cherish the pistol i have that is worth the least. My grandmother chose me out of 46 grandchildren to have it. It is an Iver Johnson break top 32 S&W that belonged to my uncle. He was a (MACV SOG 5th Special Forces) LRRP team leader attached to 1st div 7th Cav Airmobile. it has the govt black plastic grips. one side is broke in half and the plating is coming off. i dont know that I would even try to shoot it. But i wouldn't give it up for anything.

I do have three new projects ive been tinkering on for a while now. 3 Encore barrels, 458 Lott, 450 NE and 500 NE. people always ask why, the answer is simple. Because I can.

thanks for asking. well i got a lot worse health wise for a while but its stabilized now. A combination of my back and getting older which sucks i might add although i have mellowed a lot. i was in the middle of some pretty heated arguments on here in the past but thats over. i am up to 11 back surgeries now. i had started to get back on here before but Gary had said he was shutting it down. it wasnt until Stush emailed me i even knew the site was still up.

This may sound like a broken record but when talking unique handguns I must mention my Dan Wesson stainless steel .44 Mag. I purchased their handgun just before CZ took over an added a number of different barrel/shroud lengths in 2 1/2 - 4- 6 and 8 inches. The extra shrouds are most helpful when switching from scoped to iron sights... When hunting brown bear I carried the DW with a 4" barrel and loaded with punch bullet ammo as backup to my 454 and while hunting boar the gun carried a scoped 8" barrel. Unique?? Yes....

Can?t pick between the two because one would have hurt feelings so....TC Patriot .45 and TC Scout .50
