..." After settling behind a blow down my eyes focused on a swirling mass of eight boar all trying to get the best position to consumate natures strongest emotion"...This is what I saw last Monday after making my way to a sunny plateau on the Tioga Ranch of north central Pennsylvania..Nothing like sex to keep the readers attention.. And nothing like sex to keep a boar from spotting a hunter on his stalk...There were some tremendously large boar, with some in the 400lb range, but the one I was after was spotted earlier and followed because while using my 12X Zeiss binos I was able pick out some nice cutters along with a long shaggy winter coat.. This a formidable yet unique animal to hunt, and if you score, makes a beautiful trophy..My original intention was on using my iron sight Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt. The handload has a 260gr Partition over 23.5grs of H-110. I added a V-notched blade to the adjustable Millet rear sight and along with a green Freedom Arms fiber optic front blade that gave me an open sight system that was perfect for my eyes. However, this was not to be, as a scope sighted handgun was needed for a more precise shot, with all the moving boar and a distance of 50 or so yards.... My friend and fellow hunter Tom was in a different area using a 12 gauge Remington loaded with slugs and also hunting boar.. Anyway, after watching the floor show for I don`t know how long, my target broke off from the group and made his way on a angle away from me at a slow walk until he was 70 yards distant when I dropped the hammer on my Freedom....With an impressive reaction to the hit he seemed to be knocked sideways off his feet and though not killed outright, he never regained his footing... Let me finish by saying that fellow handgun hunter Alcorn Russell
from Lyon, Mississippi had sent me a box of custom made Hawk JFP bullets in .41 caliber and weighing 235grs to test, so with a charge of 21.7grs of H-110 I put one into the shoulder area of the still breathing boar. Sadly, I only recovered the 210 while the 235 is still going.... I`ve included a photo of the .41 caliber 235gr JFP loaded with high and low cannalures and using the higher groove for the 21.7gr charge of H-110 and better ignition...The recovered 210gr Swift weighed 187.1grs losing 22.9grs...
PS-good teeth...
