Hunting with the 7mm TCU? - 03/21/2019 2:25 PM
I have a 10" 7mm TCU barrel for my G1 Contender. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this caliber in the field. If so, how fast are you pushing what bullet?
I would have preferred a longer barrel, but it was a good deal and I was anxious to get my first barrel several years ago!

I AM ANXIOUSLY AWAITING SOME INFO ON THIS THREAD AS I HAVE A 15 INCH CUSTOM SHOP ENCORE BARREL IN 7TCU, PLUS FIREFORMED BRASS AND DIES, A RELOADING PROJECT ON MY "LIST". I PUT THIS BARREL ON THE CLASSIFIEDS AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE BUT GOT NO INTEREST. AS POPULAR AS THE 7TCU WAS IN METALLIC SILHOUETTE I AM SURPRISED AT HOW LITTLE I HAVE HEARD OF IT AS A HUNTING ROUND.

I might help a little. Never had a 7 TCU, but did have a 6 TCU for many years. I learned that lighter bullets at as fast as I could send them, put behind the shoulders, and less than 150 yds. did the best. Translated to the 7 TCU would probably mean 120s with the same placement and distance.
When shoulder blades were hit penetration suffered greatly.
As long as I kept the game small-does, groundhogs, foxes it was OK, but not earth shattering.

I have a 10 in and I would second the advice to stay away from the shoulders. Not near enough horse power for me, works well on steel critters ,[they don't bleed] but I will not use it again on deer!
