variable scope decision - 12/31/2005 8:23 PM

I am new to this forum and handgun hunting. I am getting an encore after the first of the year and I am looking at a couple of scoes for it.
The Leupold VXIII 2.5-8 x 32 and the Burris 2-7 x 32. Does anyone on this forum have any advice about either of these scopes.
I have a leupold on my rifle that I love, but I do know that Burris makes a good product as well. Any imput is appreciated.

i have a 2x7 burris on my 30-30AI contender. couldn't be happier with it. i like the field of view especially. the eye relief does shorten as you turn up power. i use that to my advantage. there are many situations that i don't wanna be shooting with my arms fully extended. same with the 3x12 model, except it has a smaller field of view more in line with all other handgun scopes.

i had a 2.5x8 leupold that i traded to a fellow for a 3x12 burris.........with no regrets. the leupold does cost more new.

i think either choice should make you happy. a handgun scope of any kind takes some getting used to. especially if a feller has always used riflescopes. it is simply not as easy. my advice is to have an open mind, practice extensively to get used to it, maintain that level of persistence and it will pay off.

Both scopes are very good choices. Bushnell makes a good variable also in 2 to 6 power. The Bushnell has a more consistent eye relief thru the powers.

Tigger-- do u know what the lower post of the Bushnell measures @ 100 yds @ 6X??

I've been dreaming of owning one of those Leupolds for quite some time. Here's how i'd set it up. According to the Leupold catalog the post tips of the plex reticle subtend 2.5 MOA, which would be a great 300 yd. +/- second zero, and good windage reference especially when coupled with a tgt. elevation turret-- that sucker gets 100 MOA of trajectory compensation in it!! I think that's the most in the LER scope industry.

they are both great scopes as is the bushnell elite 2-6. I own all 3 but prefer the leupold and bushnell as they have constant eye relief and with my long arms thats a big plus. I really like my burris scopes but I won't put them on my thumpers cause I don't like having to move them closer to my face on high power.IMO

You can never go wrong with either scope. But I've been looking at the Bushnell firefly, I wonder what people think about those for low light situations?

I appreciate all that answered. I'll probably just stick with the leupold since I already like their products. Now I am just trying to decide on a caliber; there are too many choices.
