.44 Special Deer Load - 10/07/2019 7:18 PM
I don't hand load so I am looking for a good factory .44 special
load for deer. Something probably in the 900-1000 FPS range.
What do you guys that use .44 special recommend?

I don?t use a 44 spec. but I shoot my 3? 629 at that level most of the time. Hornady, Speer, and Winchester hollowpoints in the 180-200gr. range should work well, as should a good cast bullet 200-240gr. Buffalo Bore offers a soft cast HP that looks promising.

I roll my own fr the specials. Lost count of kills with the special. This load is very close to what I load and I have shot their stuff and have found the quality yo be pretty good.

I've had good luck with the Speer Gold Dot 180 grain factory load. First was at 47 yards out of a Colt SAA and the second was out of a FA 97 at 102 yards. On the 102 yard shot, the deer ran 70 yards and bedded, and not wanting to risk losing it, I was able to get to 25 yards below a terrace and put a second in it just to be sure.
