Duck hunting with 410 handguns?

Duck hunting with 410 handguns? - 11/24/2019 1:48 AM

Kauger Arms offers a 410 shotshell chambered specialty pistol intended for turkey hunting. I'm hoping to get one before turkey season in the spring so I can hunt turkeys with a handgun. But, I also had another idea. With dense non-toxic shot, do you think it would be feasible to try duck hunting with it? I've known of duck hunters using 410s for various reasons.

What do y'all think?

IF YOU CAN LOAD MORE THAN 3 ROUNDS IN IT IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL, THE REASON WHY YOU CANNOT DOVE HUNT WITH A JUDGE.

IF LEGAL, I BELIEVE THAT BALLISTICALLY IT WOULD BE A VERY POOR CHOICE FOR DUCKS BUT OK FOR DOVE HUNTING.

I HUNTED WHITEWING DOVE IN MEXICO FOR MANY YEARS WITH A WINCHESTER MODEL 42 410 PUMP, BACK WHEN WE HAD 40 BIRD LEGAL LIMITS, AND, ALTHOUGH I WAS ABLE TO GET MY LIMITS ON A REGULAR BASIS, I WAS AT A DISADVANTAGE TO THE GUYS WITH 12's AND 20's.

check your regulations - here in iowa you have to use a shotgun and that doesn,t qualify as it is a pistol. i think federal regs will get you on ducks as they cant be shot with a handgun no matter the caliber or gauge. that is according to our local game warden whom i asked the same question. i wanted to shoot the 410 in my contender or get one of the howda 20 ga and it was a no go.

That's an interesting gun but it wouldn't be legal for duck or turkey in Ohio.

Does it have a screw in choke tube? Have to look that one up.

Well, I contacted the TWRA, and they said it's not legal for turkeys or waterfowl. I expected waterfowl, but I was surprised it's not legal for turkey. Evidently it's because it's not technically a shotgun.

if it is a smooth bore it shud qualify as a shotgun

It is a smoothbore with choke tube, but due to its lack of a shoulder stock it may be illegal in some jurisdictions. USFW regulations specifically prohibit the use of pistols for taking migratory birds.

A turkey is not a migratory bird.

I don?t believe ky. Allows handgun for turkey.

JR shultz precision does a conversion on the TC 410 barrels that supposedly shoots tight patterns.
