What do you carry for a finisher if you have an animal that needs a little extra persuasion to make it to the freezer?
I have used everything from a feather quill on ducks to a 12 ga slug on deer as some of the states i have hunted in dont allow a small caliber handgun be carried while hunting. have also used a well placed knife.
Now mostly a handgun that is carried for closer range shots in a deer legal caliber.
Not trying to be gruesome but we all know it happens.

Even when I take a SSP I always have my 4in. S&W for close up and finishing.

Usually whatever I was carrying in the first place. If it's a bird I wring it's neck.

To date this S&W in 22 mag is my most used "finisher" shooting 40gr FMJ ammo... Will puncture just about anything.... I remember using a PP in 32acp and FMJ ammo that bounced off the skull of a large hog... Lately I carry the two inch model 63 pictured in my first post...

NAA Black Widow 22 mag. It lives in my pocket unnoticed until needed. Also good for mice in the camper but remember to use rat shot....

I MOST ALWAYS CARRY A HOLSTERED REVOLVER WHEN HUNTING OR DOING CHORES ON SOME RANCH, THE REVOLVER IS USUALLY A 45 COLT, BUT SOMETIMES MAY BE A 357, A 44 SPECIAL, A 45 AR, OR A 480. ONE OF THESE REVOLVERS CHORES IS FINISHERS.

Usually the same game that started the fight, or a knife. Once in Texas it was a mesquite club.

I appreciate simplicity, so I've never carried a second pistol to use as a finisher. I either use whatever I'm hunting with, or, a knife to the heart.

A friend carried a 2 inch barrel S&W Kit Gun in .22 LR for tht purpose when small game hunting.

I've always used whatever I was carrying for big game and my hands or a knife for small game.

Same gun as I made the first shot with. 95% of the game I hunt here in western Montana I have to bone out and pack out on my back, so I carry as little weight as possible.

Usually a G23 Glock

Re: finisher - 12/03/2019 8:06 AM

Not so mush as a finisher, but something for pest etc. Usually one of my LCRx revolvers in 22 or 38. Never go to my timber w/o a gun.
When bear hunting I carry my Super Redhawk Alaskan in 44.

When handgun hunting I use whatever I happen to be hunting with at the time.

I just take Chuck Norris hunting with me, then I don't even have to carry a gun.

TM- I didn't think chuck was a hunting enthusiast, but if he was he would be a handgun hunter.
