Fox Squirrels - 01/27/2020 2:57 AM

Here are two squirrels I took last time home with my Ruger Single Six Hunter. It has a NcStar 2x7 illuminated scope on it. Used Sellior and Bellot HVHP's. It will shoot 6 shots into an inch at 25 yards with this ammo. Shot the big male at about 26 yards, and the female at about 12.

Well done!

Head shots too. The only way to fly.

Spent yesterday squirrel hunting but with my CZ 457 Pro Varmint. Head shooting squirrels at 70 yards with a 22 sniper rifle is a hoot.

Ruger4570,

Nice shooting! I bet that is fun.

was going to ask you how you like your single six hunter, but sounds like it shoots well. how does your 22 mag cylinder shoot?

BBwheelgunner
I haven't done a lot of shooting with the mag cylinder yet. It looks to have potential, but the LR mag is awesome. I really like this scope. The whole crosshairs light up red and it is great when there is low light.

I too would be interested in .22 mag cylinder performance.

Been wanting one of these but always read mixed reviews on the accuracy of the gun with the .22 mags.

Best squirrel hunting ammo that I have used is Remington or Winchester std. velocity target ammo. Unplated lead for a quick clean kill that does not tear up the animal.

I've read the same thing in regards to these guns BBwheelgunner, especially when using the .22 mag cylinder.

Most of the writers state that the only way to achieve accuracy is to buy a gun chambered for the .22 mag. Difference in bullet diameter I guess. Kind of defeats the purpose of the convertible if that's the case.

Nice! I love squirrel hunting! How do you cook yours?

Re: Fox Squirrels - 02/06/2020 7:55 PM

Deboned and fried is my favorite. Makes for excellent gravy. Also do a lot with my crock pot.

I think I've used most every kind of 22 and 17 ammo there is. I have a Browning SA 22 short and it kills them just as good. Its my favorite long gun for tree rats.

I haven't done a lot of testing with the 22 mag cylinder yet. I don't have any other 22 mags, so not much ammo on hand.

But so far it's been accurate, just not as accurate. After things settle down I will try to get an assortment of mag ammo and test it out.
