wyoming antelope tags - 06/18/2020 10:15 PM

Wyoming posted their Antelope draw results today. Brad and I drew tags for area 26 north of Douglas first year. seems to be plenty of public hunting in that area so we are going to give it a try in early October between the split duck seasons. anyone else draw?

season starts sept 24 which should fall in the rut. we could probably go on the opening weekend but opener seem to be absolutely over run with hunters. i was thinking of waiting till oct 1-3 to arrive. how about some opinions from our experienced hunters.

Dave, this brought back some memories. ?area 26? Converse County. Back in 1991 and 92 (back to back years). My buddies and I bow hunted that area for Antelope, I was successful on each trip hunting in pit blinds over water holes. We hunted the same private ranch both years. This leads me to a suggestion. Back then you could get a list of ranchers from the Converse County Commissioners Chamber of Commerce office in Douglas that offered hunting on their ranch for a simple access fee. For us it was $50.00 per animal hunted for 1 week. It was a DIY hunt, we camped in an old barn, dug our own blinds ect. Might be something to look into.

Going to hunt with my Magnum Research SSP-91 in 308 14" barrel and 2-6 scope. I may switch out scopes for a rifle scope if i get it braked before season. anyone have any load suggestions for the 308 out to 3-400. i am currently running 150 gr Nosler ballistic tips over 43.5 grns of IMR 4064.
I did get some 175 grn lehigh bullets for my 375 win but i think that will be a back up.

I bowhunted 26 on the same ranch three times over a five year period. This year, while we were deciding whether to withdraw our app because of the covid thing, our rancher decided hunters were taking up too much of his time. So...the decision was made for us.

Dave, you might want to hedge your bet, there?s a lot of public mixed in with private, but it?s checkerboarded and you can?t access it without crossing private. Not trying to be a downer, but it?s best to know where you?re going. Unit 26 has a lot of private, 27 has a lot of public, but I didn?t see many goats just driving through the public. They know where they?re safe I guess. Good luck on your adventure, antelope hunting is a blast and I prefer the meat over any other except maybe elk.

Well...I do live in town, so I don't shoot them within the city limits.
Most of my antelope hunting is about 45 minutes to just over an hour away.

thank you Sir! Some of the true trophy areas take that many to draw, I am looking for a respectable buck but on the last day I will shoot a doe to fill my freezer.
