Underwood 220gr Hard Cast FN 10mm - 10/10/2020 1:12 AM

I am going to be using this load for deer this year in my 6.5" Super Redhawk and I was curious if anyone has used this load on game.

I used 220gr FNFB hard cast from Rimrock out of my 6" Springfield TRP 10mm. I got 1179fps out of mine while using 7.4gr Longshot and Winchester large pistol primer. Got a SD of 10, and a load that I would feel safe hunting anything in the lower 48 with. That wasn't a stock gun though - I changed out the recoil spring. Didn't actually get to use it on game, yet, but hoping to change that in about three weeks.

That load was accurate, but not NEAR as accurate as when I dropped down to 200gr XTP's over 7.9g Longshot. SD was 8 on that load, and man did it shoot!! That's now the load I carry every day. (Just for kicks, my notes say that I got pressure signs when using 8.0g longshot and a SD of 14.) But I haven't given up on the 220's yet. Still going to take them in three weeks, and hopefully test on a bear. I'll keep ya posted.

All of my 10mm Glocks love Hornady XTP bullets loaded by Underwood. I dropped a Jacobs ram at 54 yards with one round that went all the way through. Now, deer are slightly bigger but not a tank. Also, I was never able to achieve the greatest accuracy results with the hardcast bullets. The accuracy was good but not what I wanted.

I shot 200gr XTPs over a near max charge of BlueDot today and 220gr Underwood hard cast loads and both shot very well out of my Super Redhawk. I got the rear sight dialed in pretty good, so now I need to keep shooting until our gun season opens up. The hottest loads are so mild in the SRH!
