SSK50 357 max question - 10/23/2022 6:46 PM

Hi I just ordered a new SSK50 357 maximum 10 inch barrel for my older TC Contender. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with with these barrels, at $269. And free shipping they seem to be a good deal.

Thanks

Not in that chambering but the barrels are high quality. I would expect it to shoot well.

How did the barrel turn out?

I started out with Starline 360 Dan Wesson Brass in mine. At the time Starline did not make 357 Maximum Brass, and Remington Brass was nonexistent. If I remember correctly I ended up doing some shopping for an RCBS Die Set that would load 357 Maximum.
I have always shot Hornady 180 XTP bullets in mine. My CVA Scout shoots them very well. My .358 MGM Contended barrel not so well. It may need some larger diameter Fury Bullets.
I got a NOE 360-180 Flat Nose Gas Check mold for mine. However I have been so busy the last few years that I have not worked with cast in them. Also too many other toys to work with.

I hope it ends up being a tack driver.

Hi had good accuracy at 100 yards and was also was getting about 150fps more on the chrony (about 1550 fps) then what the book said. I used 200gr cast with gas check and 180 Hornady xtp both with 18gr H110.
There was no fouling at all in barrel and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I since got 357 max brass from Starline and 158gr fp xtp but haven't had a chance shoot them yet.
I can’t figure out how to post pics of my target but groups were about two inches with an old 2X Bauch and Lumb scope.

Looks like you have it up and running, and doing just fine.
What die set did you end up using?
A Two Inch group is not bad at all with a 2X scope.
The Hornady 158XTP-FP Bullets should work fine also.
