Field rest

You guys that hunt, what kind of rest do you use, if any ? Thanks !

I use a combo of backpack stuffed with small pillows that you can lay on ground, angled on fence post , in branches of a tree or bushes on the ground OR my BogPod with PSR rest. With either of these I've made shots out to 565 yds. with my handguns and 719 with a friends with a rifle scope. I've tried many other "items" and positions, but these two have proven to be excellent the last 50 years of my handgun hunting.
Most backpacks have a little "hangy loop" on top. I've found if you put a screw in bow hanger on a tree at head heigth and hand the backpack on it, plus rest your forearm on the tree, it's about stable as a bench.

I've got a couple Bog Pods that I use. My preference is to put a W-gear claw bag on the top (it cups the top of the tripod) or to just use the V/U rest that comes with the system. A backpack full of extra cloths/gear also works well.

I usually deer/hog hunt out of a stand that has a shelf where I can use a rear bag, but I have some round bow blinds (with no shelf) that I’m gonna utilize this year and about my only option is a tripod with a small bag or bagless. Thinking about how I can put a permanent rest in it. Offhand is out, I’m not steady enough anymore.

I wish I had a PSR but they don’t make them anymore and I can’t find a used one.

I've got a PRS and it's never worked for me shooting a contender (too futsy to get it adjusted correctly for the shot and then it doesn't swivel well as the post hits a leg). I haven't tried it with a revolver but expect the same. I do find the claw bag really gives me a level surface on top of one of a flat tripod and works great for a contender/encore (haven't tried it with a revolver, but I think a patch of leather to protect the bag and it would make it work). It's not quite as stable as a bench but works much better than I had expected. It is stable enough that the gun will rest there quite well without hands on it (provided the nut behind the trigger doesn't kick a leg out).

I use trigger stick tri pods. Once your gun is set in place simply pulling the trigger and moving you gun to the desired position is a snap. I am going to start using a trifecta rest on top of one of the trigger sticks for blind hunting. It is fully adjustable and solid as a rock.

Does the Trifecta screw into the tripod in place of the Y or U shaped rest ?
