Bullets for Black Bear - 02/18/2023 11:51 PM
It's getting a little slow around here so thought I throw a question out.
Bear season is a couple months away. What are your thoughts on the .44 Mag 240 gr. Remington Core-lock for black bear over bait (10 -30 yards)? I've got some, they shoot good and other brands are still bit scarce in my area. Obviously I'll be avoiding big bones.

unless you are shooting really big bears that bullet will work. bears are not the super heavy boned animals that cannot be shot through, I have killed 3, all with 44 magnums. 1 with a 240 xtp, one with a 300 gr seirra sp and one with a 240 hp deep curl. all were dead within 40 yards and left good blood trails. Hit them in the goodies and you will be ok.
good luck with your hunt- our application process for minnesota is coming quick and we have 3 points so it is possible but not likely that we will draw this year.

Thanks. I've killed a couple bear with my stick bows, so should be able to get myself into position for a good shot. I just wasn't sure about the Core-lock in handgun bullets.
Yes we are fortunate our bear population is healthy and is still an OTC tag in most areas.

I've loaded for many years for our local bear hunting club in WV. Only loaded 250 gr. Keith SWCs in .44. They've been 100% pleased. Very, very few multiple shot bears. Double shoulder letting bone fragments work with the bullet does quite well.
