Ok, can I just upload a pic from my hard drive somehow, or does it have to be hosted on a site somewhere?

Re: Let's See Your Hunting Guns - 04/17/2004 11:30 AM

Vance, Your photo has to be on the web. I upload my photos to Photo Bucket . It's free and easy to do. Just sign up for an account and follow the directions.

To post the picture here on Handgun Hunt, go to photo bucket and right click and copy the address of the photo you want to post. Then come to Handgun Hunt and get the post screen up. Click on the UBB code for image. You will get a little box, copy the url for the picture there. It will automaticaly appear in the text box written in code, now wright your message and submit. Easy as pie.

If you need any more help just yell.

Ok, we'll see if this works. Thanks Tigger.
Ok then, let's see if THIS works!!!

This is my 8&3/8 29 just back from Mag-na-port with the Ultradot installed. I haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet. Maybe Monday.
Nothing special, but it should do the job on moose with the 320 grs @ 1335 fps handloads.
Just getting back into handgun hunting again after getting rid of all of them years ago & going muzzle loaders & then archery. Guess that's the circle of life thing.

Vance I fixed your post for you... You don't want to use the url flag when posting an image, just the image tag.

Re: Let's See Your Hunting Guns - 04/17/2004 11:46 PM

Thanks Gary & Tigger.
I'm not sure what I was doing wrong to start with. Originall I tried twice with just the "Image code" that you listed Tigger(& I assume you used Gary) & both times it just made an empty box with an x in it, so I tried the long address. Could I have something set wrong in my preferences?
Thanks again.

Re: Let's See Your Hunting Guns - 04/17/2004 11:56 PM

I tried again and it worked fine. I don't know what was going on but I think I had tried all combos this morning. It worked just like it should this evening. Nice looking handguns, all.

Re: Let's See Your Hunting Guns - 04/18/2004 2:32 AM

OK, I just tried it the same as I tried & it worked fine(I got rid of the image after I previewed the post) so you must be right Chief. Some kind of temporary glitch.
By the way Tigger, could I get you to delete your post of my pic so it doesn't look like I'm showing off? The one Gary put up for me has my text.
Thanks all.

Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/28/2004 12:47 AM

It's a 416 Taylor from SSK. 15" bbl. I'm easily getting 2100 with the 350 gr. Speer and I should be able to get close to 2200 fps. I just haven't gotten that far with the load devel. yet.

Did you ever get that PC Smith & Wesson?

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/29/2004 8:06 AM

Wow Gary, that's 3700 Ft-Lbs from a 15" handgun! You should bring that one to africa. How is the recoil? How much would one of those set me back?

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/29/2004 1:58 PM

Gary, what does the cartridge look like or compair to? Sounds like a cannon w/o wheels.

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/29/2004 4:17 PM

The 416 Taylor is a 458 Win necked down to 416. It's shown here with a 400 grain Hornady. The barrel was $800 from SSK with forend, TSOB mounts & rings & brake. The dies were about 40 from Hornady. The recoil is stout as you might imagine but I find it manageable. A couple weeks ago I shot about 30 rounds from the bench and it wasn't a big deal.

I keep looking for a new barre(=toy), but I don't think this is one for me. Any other suggestions though?

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/29/2004 11:27 PM

Well I guess the first step is deciding what you want to be able to do with it. I got this barrel for cape buffalo.

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/30/2004 12:55 AM

Gary, That's where I always get into trouble, I think too much. I don't really need anything else for what I do(whitetail). But there is something more out there. You know how it is one you get a barrel and ammo combo working it gets boring. Just looking

Re: Here's my latest addition to the stable... - 05/30/2004 3:31 AM

Gary, I guess those 6 HUGE ports tame the recoil down to a managable level. They look like they would be very efficent, I wish I could get that type of porting system on my .444 Marlin Rifle...

You say you got this for Cape Buffalo, I am just wondering why you didn't opt for the less expensive non-custom .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum? In a 15" barrel you could get up to 3500 Ft-Lbs and at least as much knock down power on the Cape Buffalo. Well, maybe you have one of those too...
