Simmons pro hunter - 10/09/2007 4:57 AM

I know some of you guys have talked about this scope in the past but I wanted to know if any of you have any field time with it, I've used, burris, leupold and bushnell elite in the past but when I compare costs it seems like a good deal if it will hold up. I was saying in my post on mulies that I had optics problems with the 410 GNR, I have a bushnell red dot that has turned to a red star sight, it still seems to be on but I want to go back to cross hairs, any info will be appreciated, the 410 recoil is between the 44 and 454.
Thanks,
Rod

I have three of the Simmons pistol scopes. I have one 4x and two 2x6 scopes. One of the 2x6 scopes is on my 375JDJ SSK barrel and has had probably 500 rounds shot under it. No problems. I have another on my 309 JDJ SSK barrel with no problems. The 4x is on my 45-70 SSK barrel. No problems. I just sold a Striker in 22-250 with the Simmons 2x6 and it was good for many rounds in the Prairie Dog towns.
For the money, I say they are great. The only time I buy the top end scopes are when I scope a XP for long distances and then I get the Burris 3x12's with BPlex. I also have some Swift 2x6 with are just as clear or better than the Simmons and they are right in there about the same price. I get them from my dealer and he has a over the counter lifetime warranty on them.
I guess if I was going to Africa or a hunt of a lifetime I would take an extra gun with scope, maybe use a Burris or Bushnell Elite since I have never had one of them fail on my backup pistol.
Good luck with your choice.

I have a Simmons 2-6 which has been used on my 7-30 Waters, .223 Rem and .22lr with no problems. I have never put it on anything with heavy recoil, but from hearing other peoples experiences with them, I think they would hold up. All of my guns/barrels I use for big game have Burris scopes.

I just picked up two refurbished Simmons 1.5-4 scopes from Natchez for $24.99 each. I just received them and they seem to be decent scopes, they also included Simmons warranty info. I have not mounted the scopes, so I don't know how great a deal this was yet. It looks like Natchez has more of these scopes on order.

i have the 2x6 on my Ruger MKIII hunter. really like it on a rimfire because of it's somewhat fine reticle. good to hear they are holdin up on some guns with heavier recoil also.

pretty hard to compete with bushnells trophy model. it is another "good fer the money" scope, although a few bucks more than the simmons. got 2 of those that do great.

on a revolver....i think i'd stick with leupold or burris 2x. they are stout, have good field of view n not overly pricey, especially used.

I have two 2X6's on a 14" 357 Herrett and a 14" 30 Bellm. So far they have performed as expected.

well I came across a guy at work that had a nikon monarch 2x20 new in the box and I picked it up for a 100.00, so I figure I did ok and I've heard good things about the Nikons so I guess we'll see. Thanks very much for all of your input.

I have had a Simmons on my 7-30 and my 243 and have not had any problems. My 7mm mag has eaten 2 Simmons scopes. On the third try, I put a Ziess on it.
