4.Ruger Super Black Hawk Bisley Hunter with 2X Trophy Wolf springs, Power Custom Pawl, Belt Mtn Pin
5.G2 Contender 12” w / 2X Weaver (Groups shot from this gun on the Bragging Board)

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 05/21/2008 3:05 AM

Sorry it's not a great picture close up, but hey it's a working gun, and it's at work.
I also have a 7.5" Redhawk in SS, but no picture. If we are talking 44 caliber I have to add in my Dan Wesson 445 Super mag here too.

This photo was when I first got the gun. The cheap rings have come off and I use it with the iron sights.

This is my 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk with a TSOB base, Burris 2X scope and SSK trigger job.

You will have to go to bragging rights to see mine, I can't get them posted here.
But it looks like any other Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter .44mag

Those German Grips are Awsome! I looked at some on the net. They are a little $$$ but seem to be very high quality. I think i may get some for my 4" Redhawk

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 05/22/2008 6:46 PM

This is one I took last week.

Not a great pic, but this is a brown bear track near my black bear bait station. You can see the track goes from barrel tip to the crane swivel, & if you look just right you can make out a toe nail or two.
The mod 29 barrel is an 8&3/8", so the bear should be a solid 9 footer (normal estimater is take the track in inches, & add 1 for the squared bear size in feet. Some guides say add 2, but I go with the add 1 so I don't feel like I'm cheating!). We can't shoot brownies
\:\(

The gun is a plain Jane shooter/working gun. It's a -4 model, 30mm Ultra Dot 4 sight, Weigand base & rings, Mag na port 4 port rifle style porting, Hogue grips.
Hopefully in the next year or so a local smith will do a satin re-blue for me.
Normal load is 300 or 320 hardcast @ 1300-1346 fps. The load in it that day was the 1346 fps load.

Ruger 7.5" Redhawk with 2X Leupold
Hogue grips

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 05/25/2008 4:03 AM

Just a regular ole Super Blackhawk Hunter with a BSA red dot and Weigand scope rail. I have added a spring kit and a Belt Mtn base pin as well as the Hogue monogrip...I had an issue maintaining a good grip on the revolver with the stock laminate grips while wearing hunting gloves.

The bottom gun is a Dan Wesson 744V in it's 4" barrel config - I also have the 8" barrel

What in the world is Sarah Brady going to do with all of these 'Saturday Night Specials' after you hand them over to her.
You know, guns like these are very, very bad.
They are just a crime waiting to happen!! ;)Unfortunately I don't own 1 stinking 44 magnum, I have 7!!!!

Yes on the Accusport. The grips were done by my friend who does this type of work with a laser engraver. He does great work.

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 06/17/2008 3:20 PM

Well I'm new here to the forum, but not handgunning. I recently picked up a nice find for me, not for some though. I just happen to be brousing my local pawn shop as I was looking for a Ruger SBH in SS without the square trigger guard and unfluted which is what I was looking for, and even though it has the fugly hogue grips it still shoots quite well. I did aquire thru another guy, a set of Ruger grips for it.

Not to change the topic, if I am. I've got a Super Blackhawk Hunter, w/Bisley grip. I'm thinking about a sling. Any comments. ideas, or photos? Also, single or dual point attachment? Thanks!

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 08/09/2008 11:07 PM

That’s a nice piece. Post it on the Bragging Board and we’ll make sure it gets on the post! As for your question, slings can be useful if used and practiced with. As for how, there are others on this form that can give you better advice that I, cough, KYODE, cough. With that being said, just be careful not to burn your sling with the flame from the cylinder!

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 08/10/2008 12:25 AM

Hey Doug and Lars, maybe its about time you get one. Got mine on gunbroker.com for $500 total brand spanking new (without the scope of course) and it shoots great... 2 1/4in groups at 100 yards on the bean bag.

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 08/10/2008 12:33 AM

That is what mine is shooting with 300 XTP over a max load over H110. SRH’s are shooters.

Here is mine. Only one 44 revolver (also have Marlin 1894SS Lever gun) but it does have 2 barrels. The other one in the picture is a DW 357 with 3 barrels.

Here is the 44 with the custom muzzle brake built by my brother for it. It replaces the barrel nut.

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 09/22/2008 10:39 AM

I've got two as well (the blue one covered in other posts):

The stainless one is a S&W Performance Center m/629-5 Extreme Hunter w/12" barrel. I use it only for competition here at home, but it could be useful for hunts in Spain where they for unclear reasons have a minimum barrel length requirement of 12"....but at least they allow handgun hunting, which is more than what could be said of my country...

Cowboy Boogie, That is a nice S&W! How's the ported barrel work for you? I thought about sending mine off to Magna-Port. I have the 629 in the 2 tone. Wasn't sure how much it helped.
Posted By: Cowboy_Boogie

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 09/25/2008 11:29 PM

Jeremy, it works well as a flashlight in low-light conditions! Seriously though, it came from the factory this way and I don't have another one to compare it with. I am working on changing that as we speak!
Posted By: Jeremy

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 09/26/2008 3:52 AM

Cowboy, either way that is a sweet 629. Mine has a good bit of weight to it, recoil is not bad at all. It has more of a push to it than lift. If yours shoots like mine, I am sure it is a pleasure to shoot.

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 09/26/2008 5:48 AM

Jeremy, I had Magnaport do the 4 port job (rifle style) on my 8&3/8 mod 29 & it made a large difference with 320gr loads in the 1340fps range. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

Thanks Vance! I have been seriously considering it. I forgot about the MagnaPort until I saw Cowboy Boogies 629. Its still not even a big kick but with the ports, I bet it would be even better shootn!!

Re: Show your 44 Magnum - 09/30/2008 1:44 PM

I had heard that the guy that did the work went out of business. I checked his website and he is gone. Donlt know of anyone else that does this work. However, if you go to sassnet.com and check there site for a link. These guys are usually at major SASS shoots and my have a link. Good luck.
