Does anyone have any info on shorter bypods? I'm not sure how short they go, but this one puts me at an odd angle.

when I use a bi pod on my contender I use the harris barrel mount system, it doesn't mark up the barrel and because it puts the fulcrum point forward of center it is more stable for me.

I can't really tell by the photo but it looks like you have the 6" model bi-pods, as the spring has a straight part to hook on the top. The shortest bi-pod Harris makes is the 4" BR (benchrest) set. I have them on my 221 FB.

You can also compensate for the difference with a shooting bag. I use the 3" sissy bag filled with rice and or a short piece of 2X4 under the grip. It works great for elevation adgustments by squeezing it with the off hand. You can stand the 2X4 or bag up for different height adjustments. The longer bi-pods get you up out of the grass in prone shooting. The carabeaner clips make them easy to carry on you belt in the field.

This one works ok I guess. I've never been able to shoot a handgun from a bipod as well as I can with field expedient methods.

Lars,

(by the way, you've got a classic Swedish first name), if your gun can accommodate Versa-Pod's bipods you can go fairly low. My gun has what I believe is their prone position AR15 type bipod:

It expands, I think, to some 9" so you normally need a table, a log, or something in the terrain to rest it on. I must admit that I've mainly used it for testing ammo at the range. Would recommend you to take a look at the Versa-Pod products anyway, they do make good stuff.

I use the Harris Bench Rest (6" to 9") Swivel Bipods on my Contenders. I tried the 9" to 13" Low Model but like the BR Model much better.

For a rear rest most of the time I use a wooden wedge I made out of a piece of 4x4 and covered with carpeting. Works great from the bench. I also have shot bags I cut in half and fill with plastic pellets that works good also to rest the grip on.
