Hog Hunting ????

Hog Hunting ???? - 01/06/2009 1:04 AM

I have a friend at Church who has a hog problem. Naturally as a member of HH, I would like to ease his pain. He has about 100 acres and a lot of sign. Rooting in his pasture and droppings all around. This is my first attempted at hog hunting and I have a couple of questions. Plan on using my 35 Remmy xp100. Will a 150 gr Remmington factory ammo do the job? Would rather use handloads but this is all I have. Would also like input on pig pipe baiting. Any other advice on proper baiting or hunting tactics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any and all input.
Safe Shooting,
Doug

Gary sent me a article the other day on the 35 I think it tells the story.

I like the 180 SSPB Hornady

With handloading being out at this point in time I would suggest you pick up a couple boxes of the Hornady Leverevolution ammo. A 200gr flex tip bullet would be good on hogs. I have used them in my XP 100 and accuracy was great. No experience on game ....yet.

If you can handload some in the future the Hornady 180gr SSP is an awesome preformer.

I agree with lever revo ammo. The stuff is awsome.

I was skeptical of the leverevolution at first but I bought some for my 45-70 Marlin and I was impressed with the performance. I can't speak to it's terminal performance on animals but velocities were excellent and accuracy was as good as any factory ammo so I'd have to say I'd go that way too if for no other reason to gain the extra 50grains of bullet weight.

I prefer the Speer 180 FN or the Rem. 200 Corelokt, but if you already have the Rem. 150 factory ammo, use it with confidence. Despite popular legend, hogs are not elephants.

You do your job, and the 150's will do theirs.
