@#%&* deer!

@#%&* deer! - 04/05/2009 12:34 AM

So...just about the entire past season I stuck with the 44 trying to nail a whitetail with a shot! Not one deer presented itself within range.

Today I decided to knock the dust of the 44 and 357 go behind the house try out some new loads. And of course what do you think I walk up on? 6 deer giving me the "what the" look. Not one flagged off. For like 3 minutes we had a stare down! Tumbleweed was even bouncing between us! Me biting the hell out of my bottom lip! The farthest deer was at most 65 yards!! I had the 44 in one hand, 357 in the other. So I just completely came to the conclusion...I hate out of season!!

That always seems to the the case...never fails that after a long day of hunting and hardly a hair sighted, I'll pull in the driveway after dark sets and will have a field full of them.

I feel your pain Jeremy.

It always happens to me out charlie hunting. I'll be in a field and have deer come out in between me and the charlie like I'm not even there. I have even shot the charlie and the deer act like I never pulled the trigger.

I've got one too ... this one really sucks! I sat in my treestand all afternoon bow hunting. Never saw a thing. On my way home a small 8 point darts out of the fenceline a ran head first into my driverside door killing itself ... My truck door needed to be replaced, but I guess I did get the venison. Of course I would have much rather had a shot opportunity an hour ealier with no damage to the vehicle!

I feel your pain. The largest whitetail buck I have ever seen in my life was on the fringe of the 18th green on a golf course in the middle of a neighborhood :(.

Just my .02,

I hunt elk in colorado, and had just shot a young but legal bull on the next to last day of the season. On my way to gut the bull, a NICE six by six popped out of the trees and we both scared the hell out of each other.

Just this morning I had something like this happen to me. In NY, you can only hunt turkeys until 12:00 in the afternoon. Today It was windy, cloudy, rainy and cold... the worst combination of weather you could ask for when turkey hunting. My dad and I walked about 5 miles in all, circling and calling the 1000 acre parcel we hunt and didn't so much as hear a single gobble. At 12:02 we walked up on two jakes, who stood at 35 yards and then slowly walked off. If it would have been 11:58, they would have been off like a bat out of hell as soon as our hat brims crested the hill. At 12:08, we arrived back at the camp, sat down on the porch, and STANDING IN THE YARD at 75 yards was a long beard giving us the finger. At 12:30, another smaller Tom crossed one of the pastures visible from the house. And all this time I thought turkeys were dumb creatures. Come to find out they wear wrist watches are familiar with NY's game laws.

Once spent most of day in woods behind my house. Walked off hill and ended up shooting one in the yard.

Got up early one morning and got ready to go hunting. Was loading stuff in truck and deer came walking thru the yard. Shot deer at 17 yds, unloaded truck.
