sw .500 encore hunting

Anybody else have a 500sw barrel and use for hunting deer? How far you guys shoot-have had mine about a yr, shot one deer with last year. I sight in at 100 yds and seems pretty good. How far out woul this be good for? About what a slug gun could do? Not too bad shooting-got a pachamyer deccelerater grip and it made a world of difference.

You should be ok out to 200-225 yds.

This is my only one with my 500 so far. 50 yd shot.

shot a 1300# bison with a Lee cast 465gr wfn gc, 31.0 gr Lil'Gun, wlr primer, Star- brass, 1385 fps from my S&W 6.5" PC revolver at 76 yds. 1 shot, left front shoulder, quartering angle. took out front of shoulder, top of heart, right lung and passed through right ribs and exited. bull stumbled and fell where he was after about 3-5 ninutes

I have 2 encore barrels, in 14" and 20"; however, I have not hunted with them yet. On the bison hunt mentioned earlier, a friend used the 20" Katahdin with the same load to get an 1100# bison bull at 178 yds, single shot broadside.
