New to this forum, home sick today so I thought I would search for handgun hunting.

Anyway I have used a handgun in the past for hunting deer, (left the rifle in the truck) and do enjoy it alot. My main gun is a 44 mag in an 8 inch andaconda. I just bought a B square mount and mounted it. I am going to put a 2x Weaver on it when I get the correct rings. The mediums are very low. Tablet paper just fits between the bell and the mount. I used to have the same mount and a leupold 1.5x on it, but sold the scope and mount.

I like to use hardcast 245 grain swc and 22 grains of the older 2400. Other then hardcast I like XTP's.

I am trying to get this rig set up for hogs. I am debating to use XTP's, I know the hardcast will.

About 20 years ago I had a Super Black Hawk (7.5), it was a great revolver fun to shoot, balanced well etc. It was hard to get shoot accurately, or I should say group consistent. 3-or 4 rounds would be real tight then flyers would appear. I shot 25-30 yards away off sand bags when checking loads. Then one rainy day back on the farm (i use to live in North Dakota) I was cleaning up the old 44 and had an idea. I thought well every cylinder hole is like a seperate chamber. So I took Hornandy 240 XTP's and put one down each hole. Some bullets would stay in the cylinder some would protrude, and some just fell out. I thought there is the problem right there.

Shortly there after I sold it and bought a Colt, I did the same "test" with the Colt, and all the bullets stayed to a consistent depth. It is a great shooter.

My biggest regret in live, well one of them is selling my Colt King Cobra 4 inch. It hurts thinking about it. Young and dumb, needed a rifle for the wife so she could hunt deer. Well I don't even have that rifle anymore, but I still have the non-hunting wife. I did manage to get a Ruger s/six to fill the void.

Welcome 257. Yep, consistent chamber throats are an important part of accuracy in a revolver.
The XTP's will work well on hogs.
