Ready for my whipping...no pics

Ready for my whipping...no pics - 12/02/2009 12:45 AM

Anyone shedding blood out there?? The opener was miserably rainy in SWPA. I was handing out walking papers to does most of the day...did not see any shooter bucks.

Today I also let some walk until about noon. Then I had enough and walloped a nice size doe with the XP-100 .300 Savage at 180yds. She sprinted for a few yards and piled up. The handloaded Remington 150gr PSP did ok...smashed both shoulders and plowed the heart/lungs. The exit hole was only about 3/4" but was littered with bone shrapnel.

Since it was warm around midday, I had her skinned and hanging rather quickly...and totally forget pics! Sorry...just imagine a dead doe with a XP-100 nearby!

Snow?? We may see some at weeks end but nothing that will stay. We usually get socked during the second week of deer season...hoping that will happen so I can do some still hunting in and around my buck honey holes.

heck no....this yr is a bust.

didn't kill nuthin this....OR last yr. i must be gettin old.
i don't even care.

just not heavy into it this season. last day of season....got up....son didn't want to go(up late courtin
\:D
....i got back in bed fer a while, n hunted a couple hrs at midday.

chances at a couple young bucks n a doe er 3....bout it. skipped on all counts. my son got sight of a nice buck(past his ears), but mere seconds to shoot him with his .243 rem 700 before he was off the pipeline and into cover. maybe next yr we can be ready in advance of season and he can get a handgun kill....i hope.
a half hearted attempt at deer huntin overall at best this yr.
i even had a "gimme" shot at a doe 200-250yrds n passed.

I was that way yesterday and half of today. Regardless of what happens in PA, I had a great year so far w/ the WY trip and a fall turkey. But when them tasty lookin' honies walked into the far end of the field at noon....IT WAS GAME ON!!

I paid for processing in WY...that allowed more time to shoot with Ernie and help my cuz work around her house. Until then it was probably over ten years since I paid to have game processed.

I stumbled onto an industrial Hobart slicer last year...just wack it off the bone and start slicing. It's wonderful...makes the work much faster. Any PA deer are getting turned into jerky...the slicer makes prepping for jerky a cinch.

I have also had a bunk year! Been very rainy. When it is "dog" time the deer seem to Vanish! They are all in high gear around here. A hunt club north of me got 18 last friday alone. All shotgun of course.

Just haven't been into it that much. Expecting the 2nd child here in a couple of months. Been a little anxious with that.

Sneaking out tomorrow though!

Well, as many times as you do post pics, I'm sure forgiveness will be granted this one time. Glad you got one.
What does that XP look like?
