Longest Shot with Single Shot

What about THE LONGEST SHOT with a DEER SIZE or Larger SingleShot Pistol.
AND what SIZE .

14.5" Antelope on WY HHI hunt,one shot, 318 yards, 30 Bower AK (356 Win necked down and blown out), 14" Contender,2x7 Burris Scope, 150 gr Bal Tip @ 2150fps.

I try and hunt, not just shoot animals, so this was an exception. There is no where near as much satisfaction for me personally to kill an animal at long range just because I can.

whitetail deer around home.......

estimated 250yrds with a 7mm-08 15" encore(3x12 burris) and 120gr nosler bt somewhere around 2600fps. my finished load now chronies 2800fps.

just over 200yrds ranged with a 35rem rimmed contender(2x6 bushnell trophy) and 180gr hornady ssp at 2182fps. the ol "brush buster" is good for more than 50 yrds!

i don't really care "how far". 10yrds or 2010 yrds. i just wanna kill the dang thing when i pull the trigger. i don't feel either makes you any more or less of a man.

I like that philosophy......my longest to date is a lazed 211 yards on a whitetail doe. I was using a 15" .308 encore and 125gr NBT.

Typically, my shots are less than 50 yards, regardless of handgun or caliber. Just not many places, that I can hunt, that I can shoot any further.

5 point bull elk 265 yards. Encore 15" tube,.375-06 JDJ, 3-12X Burris, 270g Barnes tsx.

I shot a coyote at about 200 yards with a 14 inch 223 Contender topped with a Simmons 2-6X32 scope and shooting a 55 gr. NBT. I had it rested on top of a fence post. Don't know if this count as deer size cartridge or not.
I've shot a few wild hogs at around 100 yards with my 10 inch 44 Mag. Contender.

I would say a 223 counts . Missouri Rules say "Center Fire" Using Expanding-Type Bullet
I hunt a Area that is 10-75 Yards normally But Out to 200 Sometimes.
I am Only Confident out to 100 with a 30-30 Contender Pistol.
And I wont push it !

222 yards, 243 Striker with 80gr Sierra SSP bullet. I hope to unleash this on a deer or anelope in the future.

Whitetail doe, 462yds, full custom XP-100 7mm-270WSM, 162AM, Burris 3-12x32.

The same gun is responsible for a one shot kill on an antelope buck at 1,037yds. The shooter (a regular on the site) can chime in as he feels the need to.

I highly encourage you to push it!! That's the only way you can fully realize the potential of yourself and your firearm. Just do it on targets (paper, steel, cardboard, varmints, etc) before stepping up to big game.

Yes, Dan's XP is a keeper for sure. It was a lot of fun hunting together. RH H-S grip felt a little funky, but it was enjoyable shooting it.

My longest shot was on a buck antelope with my Encore in 270 win. The distance was 560 yards.

You guys out west have all the fun. If we take 100 yd shoot here in KY weve done something. IM working on it though.

Coyote 200+ yds. with a Stryker in 7-08.

I shot and killed an adult whitetail doe at 185 yards with a 14" Contender in 7TCU out of a treestand. (it was calm though)

I hesitate to post this, as I know that people do not like braggarts, and I realize that there are naysayers out there ready to put you down in a heartbeat just to protect their fragile ego; as well as the people who will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to "one-up-you."

So, it is with those thoughts that I tenderly post this. However, I want to make clear that I am NOT trying to be a BRAGGART, as this is FACT and can be verified by going to

Therefore, it is fact and not bragging when I say that I shot the Safari Club International Number One World Record
Mule Deer in the HANDGUN (typical) category.

Oh, and if not enough already, let me also add that Gary Smith (yes Mr. Gary, of this website and magazine) consented to have me write a story on the hunt and even coached me on how to take good photos (after the fact, obviously; if you read the story as published in the Fall 2005 issue of Handgun Hunter Magazine, you will see that I killed the buck just after sundown and getting it off the mountain was an adventure all by itself, with no opportunity for photos) so I feel I also owe it to Gary to post this.

Oh...the range...well it was a long way but very doable...
The other parts of the equation: T/C Encore, SSK 30-06 JDJ barrel, 165 gr. Nosler Partition, Bausch&Lomb 2X6 Scope; shooting prone resting gun on backpack.

I remember reading about that humongous buck. "...the vastness of the terrain separating us." That is truly the buck of a lifetime, and really didn't know they existed that big. Great article Gregg--honestly one of the best i ever read in HHM.

I went back that next spring fresh after knee surgery and lasered it, it came to 356 yards. I have not wanted to share that info but here it is for the first time ever.

I shot a WT doe at 440 yards with an M.O.A. .350 RM, One of only a couple I've got to witness fall when shooting this gun, they are usually DOA before I recover from recoil. I only have a 4 power Leupold on this gun, wish I'd put a 3x9 like the guy at the gun shop told me to, sometimes it pays to listen! lol

Man, I feel like a amateur! I shot a 6X7 Mule Deer Buck at 312 yds. Scored 192. Used a 300 WSM custom Savage Striker, 165 gr Swift Scirroco.

May never get another one like that again, those ranges are scarce down here in southern IN. Most of my shots are 300 yards and less. I swear, some of my misses over the years baffle me more than the long ones make me proud I practice like I do. I can't explain them at all. On the range I can call my shots, usually every time, but when I miss a chip shot (thankfully that is a rarety) I can't figure it out. This ever happen to you guys?
