Red Dot for sixgun

Red Dot for sixgun - 12/19/2009 7:39 PM

I am looking to put a red dot on my RBH 45. Is there a mini one that will hold up to recoil? I have a bushnell holosight but I want something more compact. Or maybe a good way to mount one low to the barrel.

I keep hearing really good things about the Burris Fast Fire (think that's the name). Looked at one in a shop & was amazed how small it was! Can't help with the mounting

Take a look at the JPoint sight. They make a mount that fits Ruger revolvers that were originally fitted with the adjustable rear sight (replaces the iron sight). I've just fitted one to my SRH .454. Only put under a 100 rounds through it but it's holding up OK.

I had a tube dot sight on my Bisley 45LC, but then found this. The JPoint is identical to this Optima and it is the best quick acquisition sighting system I have ever used. I run my 45's well hot and it is going strong. Also had it on a 45/410 T/C barrel a while.

Sorry if I hijack the thread. I really like this little scope and have read it holds up very well on big guns.
I've been wanting to buy a JPoint for my Ruger 22/45. I currently have a Weigand no drill/no tap scope base on it. I emailed JP Enterprises and asked them if they made a base for the 22/45 about 2 weeks ago and have not heard back. Does anyone know if any company makes a base for the 22/45?

Thanks

JPoint used to make the mount for the Ruger Single Actions and also the Freedom Arms Model 83's. They have discontinued the mount for the Ruger SA's.

Several posts on this in the archives, including pics of my SBH with the J-point sight.

Lots more information on sights as well as field shooting positions and basic handgun hunting skills as well as great footage on a dozen handgun kills on my video: http://www.hunterseyevideo.com

Like this?

It slides into the rear sight dovetail. They fit the MKII series like mine, not sure about the MKIII. Here is where you can buy:

I believe the one for the SBH was unfortunately discontinued by JPoint and the one listed by S4S4u is for the semi-autos. Check with JPoint to verify.

I have one on my FA Model 83 .500 WE and it has held up so far:

I called JPoint about 2 weeks ago about a base for Ruger Single actions. They no longer make it. It looks like Trijicon makes one though.

Thank You MlHunter. So for now, to answer the original post by sten668:

"I am looking to put a red dot on my RBH 45."

The JPoint is recommended. However, getting the mount for a Ruger Single Action (RBH, SBH) may be a little tough. Since JPoint no longer makes the mount for Ruger SA's, you can do as MlHunter suggests and check out Trijicon. (MlHunter, do you know the website info for that?)

OR you can go this route:

OR EVEN:

OK you HHM readers, any other ideas out there?

Late to the part with this piece of information, but;
I put a Burris Fastfire III on my SRH and it does really great for what I was wanting which was within 100 yards, non-magnifying, quick acquisition. However, dot acquisition is better (faster) with the hood in place rather than without.

Damon,

If you are indeed truly stuck, here's one thing that worked for me.

Not a Blackhawk, but on my S&W PC 625, I used a dovetail type mount that was for an RMR on the Glock. I filed off the dovetail, which left me a flat plate with correct hole and pin spacing for the RMR attachment. I then tapped the plate to match the hole pattern for the drilled and tapped top of my gun.

I went further for this gun and left the rear iron sight in place, and filed the top of the rear sight body in place, flat, using longer screws to secure the base. In this way I can remove my RMR and still use the rear sight. I lost rear sight elevation with the plate screwed in, but my gun has easily replaceable front sights.

The dovetailed RMR auto pistol mount can be made to work in conjunction with other mounts or the guns existing D&T, if you are handy.
