Im in the market for a new 22 auto to plink and samll game hunt with.
I have the model picked out but can decide to go with a 5.5 inch or 7 inch barrel.
Is there going to be that much of an accuracy difference?

The barrel length will not affect the accuracy, only the sight radius.

If you are going to put a scope on it the sight radius is mote.
If a scope is in the plan before you decide on which one to pick place the scope on top of the gun lying on a flat surface to see which one looks better. You also want to hold it out in shooting position to see which one is more stable.

I would say, hold them both and see what feels more "natural". I prefer shorter barrels, just bought a 9.5" SRH thinking only of the "benifits" of a longer barrel, ... only to find I just can't get used to the balance of the gun. Im going to have it shortened, but should have known better as most of my Rugers are 4 5/8".
Hope this helps. And my .22 is old Gen 2 Colt Match Target Woodsman with a 6" barrel. But it balances great!

An auto with a 7" barrel? I have a 5-1/2" on my 22/45 and wouldn't want it any longer, unless just for bench/target. If you want to carry a lot, size and weight should be addressed.

I have a Mark II w/ a 6.8" barrel. It is great with open sights. I don't find the balance compromised and like the extra muzzle weight.
