New Toy-S&W 329PD - 02/07/2004 9:14 PM

Just picked up my new toy an S&W 329PD to play with. Went out and shot a few rounds with the wood grips. Not too bad, but will change to the Hogue for long term use. I really like the sights on the gun and the way it feels in my hand. Anybody else have one?

Well been carrying the gun alot since I got it and it's nice to know it's there, even though you can't feel it. I carry it in an Uncle Mike's canvas holster and that makes for a super light weight rig. Changed over to the Hogue grips and the recoil seems softer. I think it's a great gun.

Greetings! I have heard that the recoil in these Scandium N frame 44's can be the most brutal of all the revolvers with full house 44mag loads. Not having shot one myself, I have been curious to know if this is true.

So, what is it like with full house 44mag loads, or even plain factory 44mag ammo? One customer who has one of these and a 500S&W mag said the 329 PD was slightly worse in terms of recoil. What are your impressions?

Hey Tim,
Sounds like a "beater-upper" to me Gotta pack a wallop! Got my barrel back from EABCO today....gotta get out and shoot it! Finally warming up outside.
Cheers,
Dave

Well, recoil with the wood grips was brutal. Cut my hand(not wearing glove). Changed over to Hogue and it dampened recoil somewhat. It's definitely not a target gun with fullhouse loads. Probably, all in all 44 Special ammo would do fine. If this recoils more than the 500 S&W I'm getting one. Although harsh it is not unmanageable. Accuracy is good. I like the sight setup for quick acquistion. My only concern is will it hold up. Time will tell.

That's basically the way I feel. But it's good to have on your hip. Isn't as bad as a 500 S&W 4 inch is going to be. Gee, maybe next S&W can build a 500 out of Titanium and Scandium
